theres a story in the bible where a rich man asked Jesus how to get to heaven and Jesus told him to give up all the had...the guy couldnt bear to part with it and left...our pastor (and professors) have explained it as riches being some peoples "god" and that cant happen, loving money more than Jesus wont get you into heaven...

so basically what Jesus is saying is that it's easier to fit a whole camel through a needle than to get a rich man to love his riches less than God

Riches sometimes get in the way of our relationship with God. Someone who is very wealthy many times will not see a need for anything but their money!

We all need salvation, to turn from our selves and turn to following God. If we are too busy making and spending money, we might not take time to seek His will in our lives.

Read chapter 18 of Luke the rich ruler let wealth get in the way of following Jesus.

From wikipedia:

"Another common explanation of the figure, first recorded by Theophylact of Bulgaria in the eleventh century,[citation needed] was that Jesus was referring to

a certain gate in Jerusalem called Needle's Eye, that doorway was built like the eye of a needle and so low that a camel could only pass if it entered kneeling and unencumbered with baggage.

The lesson would then be that an eternal inheritance awaits those who unburden themselves of sin, and in particular, the things of this world. Also, kneeling represents submission and humility, which are required by most religions to enter into heaven. Although there is no historical evidence that such a gate ever existed, through frequent repetition the idea has attained the status of virtual dogma in some circles."

And then there is the often misquoted verse from Timothy:
"For the love of money is a root of all sorts of evil, and some by longing for it have wandered away from the faith, and pierced themselves with many a pang." 1 Timothy 6:10

Jesus said this to His disciples immediately after meeting a rich young ruler who ask Jesus how he could achieve salvation. He claimed to be a good person who followed God's laws. When Jesus told him to give away all his things and he would have riches in heaven, the rich man went away disappointed.

The point is that we can have things so near and dear to us that that they become more important than God.

Jesus did not say the man should be poor. God wants all of use to live an abundant life. And the intent was not that the rich should give to the poor, though that pretty much goes without saying. Many people read more into this story than exists.

While people have the right to acquire wealth, when it is done at the expense and oppression of the poor a great Inequality resulting in misery for the majority masses exists, such as is the condition in the world today.

The few elite 1% of earths population enjoy the sumptuous honors, glories and happiness life has to offer while the majority 99% live under the miserable weight of an unequal system of commerce.

True happiness symbolized by the kingdom cannot be experienced by all (rich & poor alike) in this current economic situation.

There are two reasons for Jesus to say it. The first one that the rich man and poor man are totally different. If you give money to a poor man he is now not just a poor man with money. He has now become a rich man.The rich man by his mental make up is a totally different man compared to a poor man. Now the arrogance and ego has come in. Now his pursuits are different, the needs are different. With money his old wants could have been fulfilled instead a totally new list of needs are opened up.Now he has to compete with his neighbour. He has to maintain his position in the society. He can not freely interact with people now. Just by becoming rich so many useless paths open to him, all of them will take him away from relegion.
Secondly nobody becomes rich unless his whole attention is on money. If you are not wed with money you can not be rich. To be rich you should be money minded all the time. A happy man can not accumulate lot of money. Money brings with it lot of concerns. Not just that you have to earn it, you have to keep it also. A person engaged in this activity can not know god. It takes up all the time and energy. Just by having money is not bad.But it is very difficult find a man who is not affected by money. If you are not affected by money having money is a great benediction.

Jesus was not talking about a literal needle. In Jerusalem, all commerce would go in and out the front of the gates. But on the Sabbath day the gates were closed, so all commerce stopped except for the Needle Gate which was inside the main gate. The only way that a camel was able to go through is if he were to unload all his baggage off his back and kneel down to go through the gate. It took me years to understand what the Lord was trying to say. But possibly, He is telling us that in order for us, as well, to enter heaven then we need to get rid / unload of all our stuff and humbly kneel down before Him before we can enter heaven.

what is meant is that it is extremely difficult if not impossible for a rich man to enter.

just think : Q1: is it easy/possible for a camel to go thriough a needle's eye ?

then replace camel with rich man and needle's eye with heaven, the answer will remain the same

Jesus said this to establish that entering the gates of Heaven is not that esy.Only those who loved God and served Him could hope to entre the gates of heaven.Since the rich love all the fine things and lead an easy life, they would definitely find it very, very difficult to pass through the gates of heaven.
It is worth noting that the belief of some that the blood that oozed from the wounds of Jesus on the cross would secure their salvation and they would have easy passage into heaven
is not corroborated here.

The "rope" is a greater attainable theory, notwithstanding it does not upload to the textual content textile. The meaning is that it incredibly is something impossible for guy. it incredibly is lots greater probably that he incredibly meant "camel," and right this is why. The small gate being stated as the needle's eye replaced right into a convention that did not commence till centuries after the textual content textile replaced into written, and it replaced into consistent with this text. so as that could desire to not have been what he meant. notwithstanding, the custom of a small gate being stated as a needle's eye shows that the earliest information of the passage replaced into that it replaced into speaking a pair of camel, and not a rope. The textual content textile is genuine because it stands, and the parent of speech is meant to place across impossibility.

Because at that time the eye of the needle is like customs and You have to take all your belongs off your camel and leave them to pass through. Similarly it is very difficult for a rich man to go to the spiritual kingdom because of all of his attachments in this material world. He has to leave all within his mind and give up all of his belongings to go there. Though no one leaves this world with anything. We have to consciously not care for anything within this material world (just leaved it like you leave fecal matter) to get out of here.
