3 fellas go into an electric shop to buy a TV

On entering they see exactly what they're looking for, and it's cheap, £30!

They all chip in £10 each and pay the man at the cash register.

Just as they're exiting the man behind the register comes shouting after them "Hi, I just remembered that television has been discounted and it's only £25..".

The fellas are pleased about the discount and the guy hands them £1 each. In return they say "Sure just you keep the £2 yourself, cheers!"

When you add that up
£30
-£1
-£1
-£1
-£2

Means the fellas all paid £9 each + the £2 they gave to the shop assistant.

Add that up 3 * £9 = £27 + £2 = £29

Where did the other £1 go??

I am a Respiratory Therapist and am being hired for my first job. There is a nebulous statement in the incentive package that I don't understand.

"The maker and endorser hereof waives demand and presentment for payment, notice of non-payment, protest and notice of protest of the Promissory Note."

What does this mean?

Everyone picks at people like Barry Bonds and they talk about what a jerk Albert Belle was. Then when a question comes up about the Hall of Fame or MVP or Cy Young or whatever, the answer seems to include "he was a jerk" or "he set a bad example for kids." All right, if that matters, can you think of some cases where being a GOOD example puts a guy over the line into deserving the hall or an award?
There's Ernie Banks, of course, who would have made the hall anyway and won two MVPs. And there's Kirby Pucket, who at times made Banks seem like a depressive. But what about some border-liners.
As an example, Tim Raines is coming up for a Hall vote. He has the best lifetime stolen base % lifetime and was a great player. After early drug problems, he turned his life and game around and became one of the best upbeat guys in the game. Should this help him get in?
Can you think of any other players like this? Do you think being a positive image and great should give a guy an edge?

This is my first year teaching 5th grade and...first year teaching EVER period. Walking into my "blank slate" room for the first time was very overwhelming. I have 3 large bulletin boards, one about half the size, and bulletin board "borders" on top of each. Yes, a lot to work with. So far, the room is looking "alright" since I've covered about half of them. Maybe it's just my confidence right now, but I feel like it doens't look "right." I guess my big concern is...how can I look at all of these colors and borders and feel like they "match" or mesh? I Feel like I have a green board here with seasonal trim, on top of that a yellow border with math word problem trim; just really all over the place!! Is this normal, though? And YES, i Know that this will not really matter because there are more important things, but I want the kids to walk in teh first day and be completely in love with the room and feel comfortable!! HELP!!!! I will take suggestions (esp. with colors!).

I want a computer that is between $500-800 without screen. I want something that will last for a long time and has good enough specs to play a game every once in a while and can eventually be upgraded. I want it mostly for school and some entertainment such as editing a few pictures and I do not want integrated graphics. I also DO NOT want a Mac. Also should I go for AMD or Intel for the CPU, and for the graphics ATI or Nvidia.

I recently subscribed to virgin cable, which meant closing my account with BT. 4 months before, I had subscribed to BT's talk 3 deal. I expected to pay a cancelation fee of 8 months @ £3.75 per month for the talk 3 deal, but BT insist I also pay 8 months line rental in addition, @ £11+ per month, yet I did not sign any contract to renew my line rental which I have had for 16 years. I asked to see a copy of the contract but BT claim they do not keep copies. After paying the same line rental for 16 years, I feel I am being ripped off, and the bill is currently in dispute. Nowhere in their paperwork can I find any reference to having to renew line rental when taking on their call packages e.g. talk 1, 2, or 3.

I know this person who is for a lack of better words to describe her very "difficult" to be around. I have known her for 10 years or so and she has continually been one of those "friends" that you never really want to do anything with, but feel guilty if you don't atleast do something with her now and then. She puts up the biggest fuss over the smallest things everytime we go out. Its very embarrassing to even be seen in public with her because of her annoying tendencies. I don't feel right telling her no all the time (or even lying to get out having to do stuff with her) but when I do go out with her I feel like I have really wasted my time and energy "trying" to have fun only to be miserable half the time. I have tried confronting her with the issues that bother me and that just starts an arguement and I don't want to have to deal with the drama. Does anyone know an easy way to avoid hurting her feelings, yet gives me an excuse not to be around her? BTW we are both single women.

ive lasted 6 months with eating healthy
