If everything was perfect, would we realise it?

Humanity can never be contented by the scarce resources which this planet provides. The distribution of income and wealth amongst society is growing ever further, proving that effective demand will always differ between persons due to the varying degrees of purchasing power each holds. People strive for more. When a person buys a car, he or she is no longer content with that car once they have driven it a few times and become used to it - they want a bigger, faster, better car. And so people are never content, proving, so long as we all occupy just one planet, perfection cannot exist.

You must also ask yourself what would happen if your definition of perfection did exist. If this were the case, we would be living tribally the way we did thousands of years ago. If everything was perfect, no one person would be in charge so we would all be estranged from one another as we all lived out our perfect lives. Unemployment would be rife as there would be no need for a police force or armed forces as no crime or war would beseech the planet due to its newfound peace and tranquility. The population would spiral out of control as there would likely be millions less deaths every year across the world which would lead to an even lesser subsistence level of foodstuffs and essential products for each global citizen.

Whilst I do not usually try to contradict someone's optimism, I do feel in this case it was due. I feel that, theoretically, a state of perfection would in fact cause a non-perfect state until an equilibrium came to exist. Many cultures believe that everything in this world has an opposite; your idea of perfection would displace the natural equilibrium we have come to live by and, whilst the world would undoubtedly be a better place in the short-run, it is almost certain in the long-run that perfection would deteriorate. Humanity is not perfect - if we were, we would not need to study behaviour and the meaning of life and why we are here. Life would also be a lot less fun.

I'm sorry if this has become somewhat of an essay. I hope I have helped you, perhaps, to address the other side of the coin. I would be glad to continue to discuss this topic with you further via email if you wish.

A world without crime or war seems like a good idea. But, I don't think perfection overall would be good. We'd get too used to it and wouldn't appreciate it anymore. Everything would be the same. Now we can appreciate perfection because we have the less-than-perfect to compare it to. If everything was perfect and always would be, there would be nothing to work towards, nothing to achieve.

Perfection by whose standards? That's the rub. A vegan's perfect world would keep me from eating steak and lobster, so it wouldn't be perfect for me. And conversely my perfect world would be anathema to a vegan. Therefore by definition there cannot ever be a perfect world.

The liberal nanny-state is trying to impose their idea of a perfect world on everyone, forcing them to do as they think everyone is meant to do and making disobedience to their rules and independence of thought, speech and action a crime. Not my idea of perfect.

If the world was perfect there would be nothing to strive for, nothing to work for and nothing to hope for.
People would become complacent, nobody would have to work at anything, there would be no progress the human race would just stand still.
So although there are some good things e.g. no enviromental crisis, no war etc. I think Utopia would eventually turn into a hell!

The world would simply be. Without good and evil, there is no possiblility of defining anything. If the world was entirely good, there would be no concept of evil (and vice-verse). One must appreciate the shadow to recognize the sunlight.

1. If everything was perfect, there would be no imperfection.
2. If there was no imperfection, there would be no concept of imperfection (as it would not exist).
3. If there was no concept of imperfection, there would be no ability to define anthing as "perfect," "imperfect," "good," "bad," etc. It is the two fundamental realities of good and evil which define everything.

one persons perfect is another persons hell, so if the world was perfect then everyone would have to share the same views, there wouldnt be any contrast within anything, which means all art would be the same, all music would be the same and no body would express themselves. although its not possible, it would be a boring world if it was perfect!

NO, because everybody would be complaining cause it was so perfect, and others would tell them to shut up, and then they would start fighting, and there would be a war, and everyone would die...and THEN the world would be a better place.

So in reality I guess the answer is YES!

No. Everyone's definition of perfect is different. I would rather have the freedom to choose in an imperfect world.
