It has been argued (http://www.wildmind.org/blogs/on-practice/kobai-renunciation#more-454) that Western Buddhists say they have broken their attachments to objects so they don't have to give up the objects themselves.... is that true or are their lots of examples of Buddhists living truly simple lives in the West other than in monastic situations?

I have been in a serious relationship for 2 years and I love her very much. She is the only woman in my life that loves me and takes care of me the way she does. The second month we where dating she wanted to go see and old friend. I thought it would be ok so I went. I latter found out that was her best-friend (F*CKfriend) and she had not one but two threesomes with. But I was so attracted to her and we had so much in common that the anger went away. It would come back at me sometimes and I will get mad and it will go away (and cause problems). I have been having this problem for almost 2 years now and the anger is getting worse. I love her and I want to forget about it because when I do we make the best couple. Please help with advice.

My wife and I have 2 couples we spend a lot of time with, we have all discussed swinging in a joking manner but never serious. I would like to try it, but don't know how to get past the joking stage, I am sure none of us have ever swung before.

We can call the couples A/B and C/D.

From the joking it seems my wife would go with the flow, she has said she is most likely to do something with A. A would be quite willing to do something with my wife or with D. D seems to be open to the idea. B is completely against it. And it is hard to tell with C but I think he would want to do something with my wife.

So basically 5 out of 6 seem interested, any suggestions on going further? Preferably answers from people with experience, not interested in peoples opinion on the merits of swinging.

Two weeks ago I found out that my brother was brutally killed. The motive for his murder is skitchy, and his death I believe was a slow and painful one. I have also thought that if I had to die I want die doing something I enjoy and believe in. Secondly, I want it to be quick. My brother on the under had a slow and painful death from what I have been told.

Now the thing that has been bothering me since his death is the fact that i never met him or know what he looks like. We are of different father, and he is ten years my senior. I probably seen him on the streets and dont even recognize him. Before his passing I had no desire to know him, because I felt so distant, and didnt know what we would talk about. Now it's even worst for I have no desire to see him for the first time in his deceased state. I have been trying to put his death behind me, but all I can think of is "what if, what if I had reached out to him?" or "Why he never contacted me?" Will I be ok? Is Burial is Sat ....

We are getting married June 28th of 2008. We have been planning the wedding the past three months. We have already paid deposits on the church, caterer and the reception hall. He is the only child to his parents. His mom treats him as a mama's boy. I do not have my ring yet but will be getting it within the few weeks. He states he doesn't want to tell his family and friends until it is official with me having the engagement ring. Don't you think he would be excited to tell his family especially his mom? I even asked him during a conversation the other day is it because he mom would not approve of me ( i have only met her once at this past xmas) and he said that his mom has never quite approved of his past relationships. Does this kinda bring up a red flag that his mom dicates a lot in his life and could be hard to please and get along with? Plus I have asked him if his mom wants to look at dresses with me and etc.....He said she that she wouldn't be interested. :(

My sister, I swear......she embarasses the crap out of me. She just turned 53, and she went out and got her nose pierced. Mrs. Bacciagalupe comes to visit her son Anthony for dinner. Anthony lives with a female roommate, Maria.

During the course of the meal, Momma can't help but notice how pretty Anthony's roommate was. She had long been suspicious of the relationship between the two, and this made her more curious.

Over the course of the evening, while watching the two interact, she started to wonder if there was more between Anthony and his roommate than meets the eye.

Reading his Mom's thoughts, Anthony volunteered, "I know what you must be thinking, but I assure you, Mama, Maria and I are just roommates."

About a week later, Maria comes to Anthony saying, "Ever since your mother came to dinner, I've been unable to find the silver sugar bowl. You don't suppose she took it, do you?"

"Well, I doubt it, but I'll e-mail her, just to be sure." So he sends his Mom an email:

"Dear Momma, I'm not saying that you took the sugar bowl from my house, and I'm not saying that you didn't take it. But the fact remains that it has been missing ever since you were here for dinner.
Love,
Anthony"

Several days later, Anthony receives an email response from his Momma.

"Figlio mio, I'm not saying that you 'do' sleep with Maria, and I'm not saying that you 'do not' sleep with her. But the fact remains that if she was sleeping in her own bed, she would have found the sugar bowl by now."

When the federal minimum wage increase first tier jump goes into effect on july 24th, will everyone recieve a raise? When it went from 4.85 to 5.15 last time, I remember that every worker got a raise of $.30. I want my $.70 in two weeks, am I going to get it?

Look at the 1800's. People suffering starving and dying of preventable illnesses even though they labored all day. This is because in modern moneys' terms they made 1.25 an hour. Do you realize that conservatives (oh, the good old days!) including former senator Rick Santorum want to economically bring us back to that time? If it wasn't for the democrats, the corporations would have the same iron fist low wage control they had back then and countless Americans would be unnecessarily suffering. Democrats aren't communist, that is conservative propaganda from billionaires who have the money to spread around their lies. They stand for a balance between capitalism and fairness for people who weren't born into the top 10% of America. Look at the Clinton years when we had a SURPLUS our economy was growing and we as Americans were uniting to make our country and world a better place.

Most Americans wanted that in 2000 as well (Al Gore won the popular vote)
