The Road............?

Question

I am angry at the dad for leaving that bomb shelter with all the water and the peaches. But how great was that book anyway. What did you love about it, or hate?

I was kind of perplexed at that, too. I eventually decided that he did that because it wasn't where he wanted to go, or call "home". But I think I would have stayed longer & tried to rest, gain a little weight, etc., given the circumstances in the remainder of the "outside" world.

I thought it was great. Chilling, to be sure, but also completely absorbing, despite being spartan in description. And the bond between the boy & man is transcendent and touching.

I read the book last fall and I STILL find myself thinking about it. One of the best I've read in a long, long, long time.

Great Book.
Cormac McCarthy writes in manner that puts you int the eyes of the characters. It allows you to see the imagery and the emotions. The Road albeit a dismal view of what we could become offers a glimpse of hope in the meeting on the road at the end. They had to leave the bomb shelter to find other people/food stores. Most excellent book. I couldn't put it down. Read his "No country for old men" it was good in its own right a lot different than the Road.

I think that they leave the bomb shelter because they are afraid that the cannibals will find them there. Atleast, that's what the book hints at.

The Road is one of my favorite books. My only problem with the book is the writing style. I think it could have been better in a more traditional format, but it was still great.
