My brother wants me to buy him a sword for his birtday, it cost about 20 dollars, and I asked him why but he just says that they are cool. What are reasons as to why other people would want to buy a sword? I'm curious.

It seems when people can't think of a better insult for the men and women who lay their life on the line every day the bash them for hanging out at donut shops. That is not true anymore. I see more cops at Starbucks than donut shops, and they are never holding a pastry. They are just enjoying a well deserved cup of coffee. Let's show a little love for the people you will need someday and your life may depend on them.

I have 7 brothers and sisters, and my mom lives with me.. I am finding it very hard everyday to see how my mom is slowly losing herself....She is 79 yrs.old,she's been through alot in her life,she has a big scar on her back from when she was working in the rice fields in Japan (16yrs.old),when the USA bombed Japan..she married my dad and came to the states,raised 8 children,dealt with my dad's drinking,hasn't been back to Japan since she left,almost 50 yrs. later...My siblings live about 30 or 40 miles from us,and no one calls or comes by to see her,almost like they forgot about her,(to busy with their own lives)of course atleast 5 out of 7 of them would call on mothers day,and certian holidays..Dementia is where she's at right now...I'm heartbroken watching her everyday,it doesn't get any better,I am 43yrs.old,i have custody of my 4yr.old granddaughter,so if I want to go anywhere ever, i have to get a sitter for both of them...The funny thing is ..my mom never liked me growing up.....

It's not much better in Canada. There was a story in yesterday's paper about a guy who had part of his skull removed after an accident to relieve pressure on his brain. One year later, he's still on a wait-list to get his skull fixed. He can't leave his house because there is a hole in his head.

I heard that it helps w/ debt to income ratio...I had a few cards, paid some off & transferred balances..now I have two, One w/ a balance on a 0% card & one that is paid off, but still open & I haven't used it..is this good or bad?

I am Christian. I raised my kids in my faith. They have been educated about the bible at home and church and I imagine it is the same with YOUR kids. And if you are NOT Christian, I imagine you take the lead in educating your kids within whatever faith you have.

Now I agree that there is vital debate on this issue. I agree that our kids should learn BOTH sides. I have already done MY job (as religious instruction belongs at home). Why will you not allow the science teachers to do THIER job? It is YOUR job to pass on your religious knowledge. It is THEIR job to help your children understand facts of common descent, adaptation and natural selection.

Do you TRULY want our kids to have an indepth knowledge of evolution science to have intelligent debate on this issue or do you want them asking ignorant things like, "Why are there still monkeys?" which shows they do not even have a BASIC undertanding of the subject?

My Mom is very forceful and assertive, high-powered career, etc. She's a great person but definitely feels like she has a claim on everything her kids do. She won't tell my brother herself that she dislikes the current name choice (Zoe) for the baby girl they expect.
I think telling a person you think their baby-name choice is ugly is one of the most insulting things you could say to expectant parents. Not to mention it's absolutely not her place to determine the child's name.

Should I pretend I did it? If I do that my mom may be angry when they use that name despite her opinon. Should I actually think of some way to express what my mom thinks (that it's too trendy) by saying something like "oh, I've heard that name a lot," or something?

I know you'll say I should stand up to my Mom. Trust me, that's impossible and would start World War Three. Please believe me, that particular advice isn't useful (sorry) in this specific situation. :) Any help is appreciated!
