Hi guys. I had a question on the term "zera sheqer" used in Isaiah 57:4 which I've seen translated commonly as "seed of falsehood" (KJV and others) and alternative as "offspring of liars" (NIV) which I have been told is the correct understanding.

This has confused me because zera from what I understand always refers to something physical and when used in reference to a person such as Israel in this case, it is the offspring of physical people. Looking at the Hebrew lexicon, it tells me that sheqer usually means falsehood, false, lie, lies, and one case in Proverbs, liar. The word for liars however is shakran and is not used here.

So my question is, how do you derive "liars" from sheqer and how do you know this is the correct meaning instead of "offspring of falsehood" or "offspring of lies" which is what the word "sheqer" seems to suggest. Was Isaiah referring to Israel as people descended from liars or metaphorically as a product of falsehood?

Thanks!

Either way I think Dom Imus was wrong for what he said
He's just ignorant

I think people of the same color say these words in "humor" - to kind of diffuse the painful aspects of it being said historically in disrespect.
As for "why" people get offended when they are called racially offensive names, by those of a different color?

I think it's based on a long history of those same words being used in circumstances that were horrific and NOT in anyway "humorously" - they were intended to degrade and dehumanize people of color.
The "N" word isn't a "joke"
We aren't talking about a Polish person being referred to as a "stupid Pollock" in jest.
We are talking about a word that was used very offensively towards people that were enslaved, brutalized and ripped from their homelands.

WORDS have Power
If people of color want to use the "N" word ... towards each other (or in any way)and "own" the word... then it's a way of thumbing their nose at the WORD and it's historic meaning
by trivializing it.
It's kinda like a way of becoming Immune to it's power. The more you hear it...the less impact it has.

But what do I know...I'm just a whitegirl from Detroit

I feel like cops should actually get a mandatory 4 times the maximum sentence for a cirme they are found guilty of for three reasons. And I think their time should be served, full term- no acceptions(meaning, no parole for good behaviour).

A) They knew it was a crime(or at least should have known, since they are the law)
B) They are abusing the power of the badge when they commit a crime.
C) Rarely are cops prosecuted because of their position.

I am an ex-Human Resources Manager and I stopped working to be home with my son. I am interested in developing a small business. Here's where I'd like your advice...

I would like to cater my business to help the EMPLOYEES of workplaces, not the employer.

The cost of the advertisement I want to pursue is an insert and I have a full page to work with. It's very expensive, so I'm ready to sponge up ideas.

I don't want my little pursuit to become known by the community as some "evil" company that helps out the troublemaker employees, because that is not my intent. I really want to help advise employees of their rights, particularly when they are being violated...as I have seen as an HR Manager.

See my dilemna? Any thoughts on how to delicately approach this new marketing initiative without offending or putting question marks in the minds of local employers?

All right, I'm doing a school project on the soul in modern time, and I would appreciate any opinions on the matter. I don't need a bible definition; for this to work, I need to know what YOU think a soul is. Thank you for your time.

I do not want to give this employer a two weeks notice simply because of the way in which i was treated and spoken to. I have a new job lined up that starts in a month, however i want to get paid for working the next three weeks and get paid out for my PTO. I have a feeling that they may just say don't worry about working out your two weeks. I will be able to get a great reference letter from one of my supervisors so i am not worried about that.

My question is how will it look on my part if i just give them one weeks notice?

I thought this was a big spring break trend, so lot's of 18+ people went on cruises...I assume since it's Spring Break they didn't bring a parent.

My close friend's employer is constantly missing the payroll dates. On some occasions, she won't get paid but other employees will. No prior notification is given. Employees just don't get paid on payday. At the same time, some people are given their paychecks. Is this fair?

Reference last week's debate - how many times was Reagan's name used in complimentary terms versus GW Bush's. What does that tell you about his policies and potential legacy? Does his legacy have a chance when his own party is treating him like a pariah?
