Absolutely! If he dies while the children are young the state will ensure that you and the children are taken care of. Without marriage you're on your own. Health insurance is another consideration. You can not be denied health insurance because you are not married. Marriage also give you tax breaks that you will not get as cohabs. Right or wrong, society is design to encourage marriage. You need to think in practical terms when you have children.

Well, only the two of you can answer that. Don't get married because everyone else thinks you should. Lots of couples have been together for years with or w/o kids and never married (Goldie Hawn, Kurt Russell). It's one of those things to think like "if it's not broken don't fix it" kind of thing. If you're happy with the way things are, then that's how it should be.

That is entirely up to you & you and your fiancee. Getting married and having a wedding are two different things. Marriage is a cimittment between two people - after 9 yrs together and two children, if your relationship is solid - your pretty much married already. having a wedding is just a ceremony to celebrate that comittment.
Not all people see it this way, but maybe if they did - divorce rates would go down.

Me & my fiance have been together for 5 years now, but we aren't married yet.. and we have a 12mo old daughter together... The only reason we haven't married yet is because we are waiting until we can actually AFFORD a NICE wedding... we don't want to get married @ the courthouse or anything... but If you can afford a nice wedding (unless it really doesnt matter to you) and you are truly happy in your relationship, then yea your should...

It would be nice for the children to have a father's name on the birth certificate; and if something should happen to him you would get survivor's benifits from social security. Unmarried you get squat for the kids and yourself.

if you both are happy then who is to say what you should and shouldn't do? next time someone asks you to get married, say "are you paying for the wedding in full?" that will shut them up
