My thoughts are...so what?

It still has to be found with an inscription. I hope that tomb robbers didn't carry away anything. I also hope that they find anything to do with the history written there.

I noticed that wikipedia has him taking rulership at 70 BC. I find that remarkable that he would still be there at 4 BC. He would have been very old by then. One article I read places him as ruler at 40 BC, I think that's more likely, it would be something that wikipedia would be interested in looking into, I think.

I am not so interested in the bones or the ossuary that Herod may be in, but rather the other materials, especially a history written on tablets or vellum that might be there. If they could be so kind as to provide us with something that records the death of infants, and the arrival of the Magii, it would be a most spectacular find!

Remember, the Jewish authorities are in no way interested in proving the birth of Jesus. Or perhaps the record of an order verifying the Bible's claim that there was an order to kill all the infants because of the Magii's insistence that a King was born to the world. But I think that they would not cover it up, but rather would look at it as an opportunity to draw tourists with money after they set them up in a museum.

I hope that we find out soon. I am always interested in the digs around the 'Holy Land'. I figure that there are a lot of things that we have still not uncovered. I eagerly await the discoveries.

That is very interesting, but I'll wait until they prove that it is THE Herod's tomb. I'm not really surprised though. They have not found ONE shred of evidence in archaeology that disproves the Bible.

Not much. Honestly, I don't see why the christians are crowing over it? Does this in any way validate or invalidate the bible, or their belief system? No.

When a science fiction movie mentions a real person or invention, do you automatically assume the rest of the story MUST be true also?

Unless there's a handwritten letter that says, "I sure hope I got that little Messiah brat in Bethlehem!", I think it will just be an addition to the historical and archaeological community.

Herod has always been known to be a real historic figure.

That Herod was an actual historical figure?

I think it's an amazing archeological find, but given the recent politization of "Jesus' Tomb" by James Cameron, I think we have to wait for some confirmation on this one.

A tomb was found, but proveing it was king herods is totay diffrent, History shows no information on him, only the bible, which lacks historical evidence. Most "historical" things from it were taken from pagan lore/ hisory from pagan europe and altered to a judaistic overtone with monotheistic qualities thanks to amenhoteph the fourth.

Jerusalem should be an international City, and not the propery of one or two religous states. This is a city holy to many religons, and this is not a coincidence. It's Gods way of teaching us to play nice and share our toys.

WHAT!!!! You mean someone mentioned in the Bible actually existed? What are the atheists going to say about this? It must be a hoax. I bet President Bush is in on this. Oooo, you just can't trust those Christians; they set this whole thing up just to try to prove the Bible.

It doesn't matter. Even if the Bible was proven to be 100% accurate historically , people still need faith to believe that Jesus is the Son of God.
