My mother is 85 this summer, and we have not seen or spoken to each other for almost two years. She has allways been a VERy controlling lady, when it comes to family, and I think I must have been 50 before I dared to contradict her direct order, as they allways were considered by the rest of the family. If she came up with a suggestion, about ANYTHINg, we ended up doing as she said, before she came to control if she had been heard. I remember my son once said to his grandmother that she should have been working in the army. And I almost choked! But he was the only one she listened to, and did not get mad at. My dad who was a loving man, never said against her, he was to his dying day totaly in love after 50 years of marriage. My sister and me have all our lives had to weigh our words on a golden weight as we say in Norway, before we decided to speak abot any subject. Two years ago I could not take it any more. I sold my house, moved to another city, and said goodbye. Should I call?

I'm increasingly feeling that were becoming a minority in our own country. It was enough to name a London road after some muslim person, and these people from different cultures complain that 'they cannot adjust to our life style'. Well if they don't like it, why stay here? Proud to be English for life!

I have changed jobs, states, friends, activities, and everything else I can think of but I just cant seem to keep a smile on my face. I dont get it either. I dont have anything to be upset about, I dont have a bad life at all... What the hell do people do to get out of their grumpy attitudes that come from nowhere? How do they just be happy?

My son is 7½ years old, he is very sensible and knows to use the crossings and not speak to strangers, I've aloud him to cycle to the top of our road and back but never any further. He is now asking if he can cycle to the sweet shop on his own, I let him go if there is a group of kids going together but he wants the responsibility on his own, he is promissing me he won't speak to strangers and that he will come straight back, but I'ts just sooo scary. Do you think he is too young?? and if so what is the right age??

My neighbor, a youngish (mid 30's) woman, is being beaten badly and regularly by her live-in boyfriend (black eyes, welts raised, massive bruising, etc.). If this goes on he will kill her. She keeps coming back, and says she won't promise not to this time either. Yes, she's got problems, but none worthy of death. She refuses to press charges because she has an old warrant out on her for some posession charge (this is a "no tollerance" state), and has so far resisted going to a women's shelter/help center because of bad experiences with them in her past. I'm just a neighbor, don't really know her well (other than giving her a place to hide when he's on a rampage), just don't want to go to her funeral, but that would be the next step if this continues. I need some advice, especially from women, how does one influence a friend NOT to commit suicide by boyfriend? PLEASE PLEASE no Oprah/Dr. Phil type advice, that stuff does NOT help. Your experiences would, though.

Cheyenne has had problems for the past year and is getting progressively worse. He is on meds and at one point they did seem to slow the progression of the disease. Now he can barely get up to take care of 'business'. He is not a candidate for hip replacement due to his age. We love him very much and he is doing well in every other aspect of his health.
To even consider having him put down is an unbearable thought at this time. This wouldn't be so difficult if he weren't so alert and content in other aspects of his life.
I have hopes for a miracle I guess.
