I have to say I simply devour everything he writes (with the exception of Elizabeth Costello). Novels like the life and times of Michael K, Youth and disgrace are some of my favourites. I love the fact that they are almost novellas, short but punchy, full of insight and terrific writing; yet can be finished in one sitting and read all over again. Most worth of the nobel prize in my humble opinion lol!

I live in Upstate New York and we had a sudden thaw 2 weeks ago. Three feet of snow melted in 3 days. This is the first time I've seen standing water in my cellar. I have no sump pump, but there's a hole in the center of the poured concrete floor that goes directly into the sewer line so water can drain off. It has somewhat abated now, but there are still very damp spots on the concrete. The water looks like it's coming in right where the floor joins the stonework wall (the house was built around 1900).

I've had three contractors come and give me estimates, the least expensive was for $1000 and they just spray some sealant chemical on the cellar walls and floor where the damp spots are. The most expensive was $14,000 and was to install some sort of drainage system around the entire interior perimeter along with a sump pump. The other alternative is to do nothing, but will a damp cellar eventually weaken the house's structure?

Mine-I became "born again" and subsequently realised that there was so much hypocrisy in the church that it was unbelieveable.I soon realised that if god could inflict supernatural punishments on people years ago, then he could do it now(after all,god doesn't change apparently)but when's the last time an evil christian was struck down or turned into a donkey, etc? The same goes for miracles-it's the having faith that heals them,NOT the god part of it.i.e-if you get healed in a church,it is because of your faith, not because of what you have faith in.

Arabs says Koran was given to Mohhamed that by the way could not read or write across a revelation from a Chritian angel, Mohamed had itself many other "convenient" revelations for him personally brake almost every rule, marrying 10 women including a 6 years old child far away from the puberty needed to aproval, atack and lootering on holly month of Ramadam, Mohamed himself is the only "prophet" that had killed, stole, mutilate and live in polygania, but this is just the begining: Koran promote the creation of virginsmade on heaven for the porpose of the "pleasure"...substaining then than slavery and degradation of women comes from the very own God, Mohamed is considered a feminist (OH MY) cause he defend women not to be beaten in the face as Koran acept women to be beaten slightly...(ah?) though the concept of slightly is a bit confussing for some muslims and even claiming Arab is the language of God (Muslims are the only one who says have superior book and superior language),

I just got back from a school camp in the mountains and on the bus back, I felt the kind of pressure in my ears you would feel on a plane. I could barely hear anything and now, 8 hours later, my left ear can barely hear anything. I can usually clear it up myslef by swallowing hard or blowing my nose, but nothing's working. All that helps is if i tilt my head to one side, or upwards, it clears up. As soon as my head is back in normal position, it stuffs up again. It also hurts a bit..is it an infection?

Can you please tell me what's wrong??

A student in our school has just had an operation to correct a defect in his lower leg and ankle (he has hemiplegia) and that part is currently wired and bolted into a frame that will be adjusted daily. We, as TAs in our school, have been asked to wheel him about- -in an especially adapted wheelchair-- from lesson to lesson and before they start and end so that the corridors are quiet.
We are really not happy about htis because we feel that should an accident, or incident occur whereby the student is injured, who would be held liable, us or the school?
This arrangement is meant to go on for the next six months. Your thoughts will be appreciated.
