My dear, you cannot force yourself to like cats. No, you don't sound stupid. Many people do not like cats. It is something that you are either born with or you are not in most cases.
You can have however learn a tolerance and possibly some affection toward them. Believe, cats sense when a human doesn't like them. Despite your aversion to felines, at least make peace with your husband's cat. Let the cat know you are not the enemy. You don't have to fawn over it, you don't have to do the goo goo, here kitty, kitty stuff....just be nice to it.
Strike a happy medium. You can ignore the cat as much as it may ignore you or you can investigate the fantastic apsects of cats and find you really don't dislike them as much as you thought.
In the meantime....let your husband be happy with his "baby". Be grateful he is a pet lover...they are usually the most loving people and make the best spouses.
Best of luck to you....:)

It's not really easy to 'make' yourself like anything.
Has your husband ever tried putting a very small kitten in your lap? Believe me, it's hard not to melt when you have a little ball of fluff purring up at you! And that is pretty much what happened to a number of my friends who started life as strictly anti-cat, then came around.
I wouldn't try to push the issue: It is good that you are trying. But don't worry if you never really get lovey-dovey. It could be that you are more of a dog person, or even don't want any special pets at all.

I was never very fond of cats until I got one of my own. When I was with my Ex we always had cats I didn't really like. After we split up, I adopted a cat for company. I got a cat because they require a LOT less care than a dog, and I was working an average of 12 hours a day. She turned out to be a great companion. She would curl up in my lap every night and watch TV with me. It broke my heart when I had to give her up after accepting an out of state job.
Why don't you go to the local animal shelter and adopt a kitten? You pick out the kitten and care for it. You'll be amazed at how attached you get.

Well first why don't you like cats..Second its like anything every cat has it own personality..Learn your cats and find out what you like about him or her. I am a total cat person and when me an my husband first started dating he knew that me and cats are a package deal so he had to learn to at least tolerate them. Now we have 1 cat and he hates to fur everywhere but likes that me cats well play tag and is affectionate. Also since I know that he hate fur I don't my cat jump on everything and I buy a lot of lint brush removers..

The more you come to understand another living creature, the more you will respect it. The more your respect for it grows, the more this will grow to become love. Often times i find that reading everything i can get my hands on greatly increases my knowledge, and hence respect for an animal. Stories reflecting the love, devotion, and nurturing abilities of cats (such as in the "Chicken Soup for the...soul" series) are often heartwarming and help to build a healthy respect for animals and the love they are capable of showing.
Spending time with them and watching them in their daily routine as they sleep, wash, and play can help you to understand them more.
Our world is filled with a wide variety of wonderful creatures, each one very different from the next. When we learn about one of them, we come to understand who they are and where they are coming from. You may or may not become "in love" with cats as some people are, but your dedication and willingness to try to understand and accept them is a big step in the right direction.
I wish you luck, and thank you for your openness to accept another species into your heart. We need more people like you.

Well first try and get to know the cat you have a little better. Then try doing some research on cats and maybe that will help you gain a little more respect for them. Cats are very sensitive animals and love attention, so just try spending a little more time with the cat you have and maybe bonding with it will get you to enjoy cats a little bit more.
Hope this helps!!
