He is on meds for ADHD and ran out. They say he can't come until he has more medication? How can a school do this?

No that can't do that.If they say they can...ask to see it writing it must be in their school policy. If you choose to take your child off medication it's none of their business. They can't force your child to take his medication or you to give it to him. This will not be an easy but, your and your child have rights.

I don't know where you live but where I live, the answer is no, they can not do that. I suggest you consult a lawyer (many give a consultation for free) and ask what they think. Or, check the laws in your state. I find it highly unlikely that they can tell you your child can't attend school because of ADHD medication! Sounds like the school just doesn't want to deal with the issue, it has nothing to do with safety, ADHD is not a communicable disease for goodness sakes! I would fight this -- it's ridiculous! Good luck!

no they cannot. Unless he's harmful, but i'm sure he's not. ADHD is a big label these days, and schools are taking liberties they shouldn't be these days. If you can't afford the medication or if you don't want him on it, play the game right back, say the dose has changed and he only takes it in the morning which is the appropriate dose to begin with.

My child's school said that to us and with some research I found that they can it is for health reasons if your child goes to school and has other health related issues for instance chest pain they may pass it off as it is from there meds and they could be held responsible if it is a heart condition.Or if your child goes to school with out his pills and we have a major earthquake or natural disaster could you really say you would want to be locked in a class room with 25 kids freaking out and a ADHD child with out his meds think about it I know I would not like to be in a room with my son when he hasn't had his pill.

Sadly, they can. I know someone whose parents opted to withdrawal him from highschool because they didn't want him taking his adhd meds anymore. I think it is riduclous! His only options were to take the medication or never come back. I think it is very sad that the school system looks at this as being more important that receiving an education.

Yes, they can do that.

This is a safety issue, the safety of BOTH your child and the others. The school is not a medical facility where they can take care of a child who is not on their meds. Get the child the meds and then get him back on an even keel and then he can go back to school.

School is a privilege, not a right.

Yes they can do it, no its not fair. But at the end of the day they are just trying to keep your child and the other children and teaching staff safe.

And that there main worry at the school these day.

I hope every thing goes well and i hope my advise has helped you.

wow. where my kid's go to school they can't do that. i don't even think they can make it a "law" in the school dist. rule book. this is crap. have you called the dist. offices? talked to the principal or superintendent? i would think this is against the law. keep fighting. get on the phone with the district and don't let go til you have the answer you need. good luck.

Just tell them he took it, they cannot prove otherwise.

Adderall? my friends get stoned on that stuff all the time, keep giving it to your child.
