I have to say I simply devour everything he writes (with the exception of Elizabeth Costello). Novels like the life and times of Michael K, Youth and disgrace are some of my favourites. I love the fact that they are almost novellas, short but punchy, full of insight and terrific writing; yet can be finished in one sitting and read all over again. Most worth of the nobel prize in my humble opinion lol!

JM is quite an accomplished novelist and poet. Foe is a classic in its own right. He certainly deserved the Nobel Prize which he eventually won in 2003. Together with the other Nobel prize winner, Nadine Gordimer, they firmly foregrounded protest against apartheid in South Africa as a collective moral gesture. Alex La Guma and Peter Abrahams belonged to the same league. Although he has since emigrated down-under, JM's remain one of the boundless voices South Africa ever produced. Dennis Brutus, Ellen Kuzwayo, Miriam Makeba and JM himself deserve more recognition and honor.

I read "Disgrace" a year or two ago. I really enjoyed it, but I must admit I haven't picked up another Coetzee book since.
