I live in Northern Ohio, and the economy is rough here. I have a teaching degree, and one year of experience teaching out of state. My single year of teaching went relatively well, but that ended three years ago. I took a year off after that, and have worked nothing but dead end retail jobs ever since.
My job/career prospects are scary: I can either attain more retail work, which pays nothing and does not provide benefits, or I can get commission jobs with companies like AFLAC, or other bad jobs like working for Enterprise Rent a car, which practically is retail (I've read some true horror stories about that company).
To teach again, I'd have to move south or out west, where I do not have any friends or family. I'd have to live in an apartment again, which I have concerns about.
What am I doing wrong? Is there any career that I can get into within Ohio? People always make fun of what teachers make, but I don't think it's *that* bad...or am I missing out on something?
