If a woman is pregnant then yes a person should give up their seat for her, but I don't think women have a right to demand that men give up their seats for women just because they're women. I thought Rosa Parks put an end to that.

We keep being cautioned that "people are different out there." While this comes mostly from other city folk, a few things lead me to suspect they might be right.

We have a nice time when we're in the town, but. "It's different when you're just tourists" is the consensus.

I pointed out that I wasn't the type to show up on neighbours' doorsteps announcing my arrival with a pie in hand, but get "Maybe that's what you have to do..."

If you're in a rural area -- what's the general feeling on refugees from the city?

If you've made a similar move -- what did you do?

The town is within commuting distance to where we live now, but seems pretty free of urban transplants. I'm leery of us looking like the advance party for a pile of outsiders...

I'd assume we just move and be normal, but the comments are making me wonder if there's more I need to know. Do we need to make noticeable attempts to become part of the community; if so, how?

The brain is a machine. It stores memories. It performs nonconscious operations such as heartbeat rate, creation of vision and color, etc... Most of what the brain and body does does not require any "knowledge" or awareness. They are operations that are done without our awareness like the digestive system. We have no control over these operations.

IF we are not the machine, who are we? Who is the witness, who is the experiencer?

When I moved into the rental property I knew they were going to update the wiring. However;the guy who was hired to do the wiring took 6 month to do it as he only worked so many hours a day due to health problems. My privacy was invaded every day for that 6 month period and the worker would make a total mess of my carpeting and so forth and I found myself having to scrub carpets daily when he left for the day.He also broke several of my items during the work process. He wired the laundry room wrong which resulted in my not being able to use the dryer for about 5 of those months;he left the refrigerator unplugged until I noticed my food was spoiling. Then he ultimately ended up burning down the upstairs when he wired the ceiling fan improperly. It has been a real nightmare. What is my rights as to having paid full rent while repairs and is there a time limit on how long they can takBetween the fire and the wiring;I spent the first 15 month of living in the rental under very bad circumstances

A very traditional elderly woman was enjoying a good game of bridge with her girlfriends one evening. "Oh, no! I have to rush home and fix dinner for my husband! He's going to be really ticked if it's not ready on time!" she exclaimed suddenly.

When she got home, she realized that she didn't have enough time to go to the supermarket, and all she had in the cupboard was a wilted lettuce leaf, an egg, and a can of cat food. In a panic, she opened the can of cat food, stirred in the egg, and garnished it with the lettuce leaf just as her husband pulled up.

She greeted her husband and then watched in horror as he sat down to his dinner. To her surprise, the husband really enjoyed his dinner. "Darling, this is the best dinner you have made for me in forty years of marriage. You can make this for me any old day."

Needless to say, every bridge night from then on, the woman made her husband the same dish. She told her bridge cronies about it and they were all horrified.

"You're going to kill him!" they exclaimed.

Two months later, her husband died.

The women were sitting around the table playing bridge when one of the cronies said, "You killed him! We told you that feeding him that cat food every week would do him in! How can you just sit there so calmly and play bridge knowing you murdered your husband?"

The wife stoically replied, "I didn't kill him. He fell off the mantel while he was licking his butt."
