When I was just a little girl, my family came to the U.S.A from Portugal, and we learned to speak English just fine, with the exception of our accents. My parents told my siblings and I that our accents would fade with time and we would speak just like all the other American children. I am in my 20's now. My siblings (I believe all of them) have indeed faded out their accents for the most part. I have not.
I'm just wondering why my accent has not diminished, though most of my family's accents have.
