I just relocated to California from Florida for a job position in Santa Monica. I will be working on Wilshire and 17th street. I want to commute as less as possible but also can't afford to pay over $1500 per month for housing minimum 1BR 1BA for two adults and two cats. What are some good, safe, inexpensive areas that I can look in...and please be as specific and detailed as possible.

I'm looking at various places around the US for places I'd be interested in moving to one day. Does anyone know of somewhere that has most of the following?

1: Less than 1,000,000 people
2: Reasonably priced land/ older housing (preferably hilly wooded areas)
3: Is somewhere in the mid-west or west coast.
4: Isn't too far from some sort of wildlife reserve or area one could find work with animals, wildlife studies, forestry work.
5: Isn't terribly cold in winter or at least has a short time where you get snow deep enough to have a hard time getting around.
6: Isn't too dreary weather-wise.
7: Has something of a strong technology sector to the economy.

I appreciate any input I can get. I'm just looking for places in general or somewhere to start looking, so anything I can get would be helpful!

One of the main reasons that people give to move to California over Florida is that Florida gets hurricanes. But California gets wildfires, and there seems to be more wildfires in California than hurricanes in Florida. Also, you usually get more of a warning of a hurricane (up to a week) than you get with a wild fire. So what am I missing?

I will be leaving from Shreveport and going to San Antonio Texas and I am so very worried. I have never traveled on a greyhound, and I am scared that I could possibly get lost or accidentally board the wrong bus. I am just so worried. How can I ensure that everything will be ok. I am a 20 yr. old female and I will be traveling alone. I am just so very frightened of getting lost or getting my things taken. I need some advice please!

Is it some national trait? I met a lot of them, through work, and they never call you by name, and can be divided by three groups:
1. Just plain ignore your name after you introduce yourself. The best group, so far. They call you "you" and "hey you".
2. Out of sudden address you as "Sara", and take umbrage when you do not respond. They decided to call you Sarah because there is an "a" in your name, and they have a girlfriend with this name.
3. Shout out of a sudden: "Split! Hey, split! Why do you ignore me? Don't you know that Split is a new nickname I INVENTED FOR YOU? I ONCE HAD A DOG WITH THIS NAME!" I already have a name, thank you, it's human, and I got it many years before! I do not need anyone to re-christen me!
Indeed, I NEVER met an American who would call people by name after they introduce themselves.
Ah, and my name is very easy both to remember and pronounce. There is nothing difficult or exotic about it. It's international.

When I was little, my parents sent me to a music school. I like
music and attended for 6 years, but my voice turned out to be pretty but very small! So, I abandoned it and moved on. Now, listening to kind of "music" produced in the US I think that I missed my real career. I will move to the US, and sing "ooouh ouuh auh auh bang bang", showing pieces of me here and there... People say that I have some body parts worth seeing... And I will be a star! The revelation came when I was listening o a new CD, in which a "top band" was singing, a French song, and they didn't even bother to memorise the lyric, and went on with "baaaah baaah baaaaah bang", chanting rather than singing it. And, what the hell? If this all fail, I can always become famous for showing my body parts (as this girl, what's her name, who is famous for her big butt and because her father, a lawyer, was in the case, defending a murderer who killed someone famous; fame is contagious in States).

Whenever I say that I am not pretty, Americans assume "overweight" and start giving me advice on weight loss. I am not overweight, I am 5'7, 100 lbs. I am just not good looking. Weight has nothing to do with it!
Why do they think, inevitably, that "unattractive" means
"overweight"?

I'll be in Kissimme, florida in January but want to go to Marietta, Georgia on Jan. 5 for an event there, but I'm a bit short on cash so I want to know what the cheapest way to get there is. Like how much in gas money would it cost to drive there and back, or how much it would cost, if possible, to take a train, or any other way. Just as long as I can go there and back in a low budget. Also, i dont need a place to stay while I'm in Georgia. Its only for 1 day. Thanks.
