Define nice and reasonable.

The nicest places in the Monterey Bay are also the most expensive, like Pebble Beach and Carmel. There aren't many bad places to live in the area, but most of them are obviously not great when you drive through, like Watsonville. The only place you should really avoid is Salinas, since there is a heck of a lot of crime there.

But really, you should drive around in the area to get a feel for the area. There are lots of cute little towns, like Pacific Grove, Capitola, and Aptos, as well as Santa Cruz which is similar to Berkeley in many ways.

Monterey is called somewhat conservative on condition that there's a lot retired defense force residing contained in the interior of reach communities of coastline and Marina. the individuals who personal houses in Monterey may be extra liberal. you should visit varsity in Santa Cruz instead. that college in Monterey is amazingly restricted. Santa Cruz has music, trekking, golf equipment, nighttime existence, coastline existence, a boardwalk, liberal, organic and organic. Monterey does no longer have any of that because it truly is a small upscale vacationer community with severe priced actual resources. the answer from what you assert isn't any.
