I will be moving to a Southern state as my boyfriend is joining the US Coast Guard. I am looking forward to nice people, and warm weather. I am looking to live in a nice place with decent jobs, but my main concern is moving to the right place. I am a "Yankee" Democrat and I am just worried I will move into the wrong place with racists and bigots, and I do not tolerate the N or the F word. We live in a somewhat racist area and want to get away from it. Iam just worried about going from the pan into the fire. We will be stationed on the coast obviously, and want to stay away from hurricane prone areas. We both seem to like Maryland but have never been there to really tell. Any thought? Thanks!

I'm driving from Michigan to Niagara Falls, Ontario but taking the longer route along Lake Erie. I was wondering if there are any areas that are worth spending one night in along the way. I will be driving through Ohio, Pennsylvania, and New York.
The attractions can pretty much be anything fun/exciting. I'm willing to drive out of the way a little bit as well. Any recommendations would be appreciated.

Thanks!

We are planning to fly from California to Maine in the fall, rent a car and begin in northern Maine where we hope to see the beautiful fall colors. Then we'll drive south, along the coast to Georgia. We hope two weeks will be enough time to see all things historical. Any suggestions?

Do you have to cross through border patrol to get there?

Is it great?

Is a 1 year old too young to bring there if you have a back pack carrier?

Are there decent campsites with electric and water hookups?

Thanks!

I've heard that you will need a passport for Hawaii and Alaska.

Is this true? I went to Honolulu in 2001 with just with a WA state drivers license. But I think the rules changed as of 2006 or 2007...?

I need to clarify wether or not you'll be needing a passport , as of US travel LAWS, for Alaska or Hawaii. I'm living in Washington state and is a US citizen.

Thanks everyone! And if you have them, please post your source for info.

I don't want answers saying Hawaii and Alaska is part of the USA, because that's a no brainer. (NO FREE POINTS FOR YOU!) : )

I'm thinking every season has it's difficulties, i'm just trying to pick which one i'd rather deal with.
Spring= floods and tornadoes
summer=floods and wildfires and it's bad for cars (tires and engine)
fall=possible snowing conditions
winter=extreme snow conditions

I've only done this once before and it was at the end of october through january. I was also younger and now that i'm older i realize i used to put myself in a lot of dangerous and stupid situations.

so what time of year would you guys leave?...and why?

My boyfriend is coming here this upcoming weekend for my b-day on July 29th and he is taking a bus from Mass (near Boston) to Penn station in Newark NJ and then we are trying to see if he can get a bus into freehold, NJ. Does anyone know if that is possible? Does AAA help with bus arrangements? Any help would be appreciated!

BTW...I went to the nj transit website and they have stops in freehold, I just want to know the best way to do all this. We don't have $ for a plane and the bus is cheaper than the train. THANKS!

I'm thinking of working for the IRS there. A temp job, I think.
I hope. Never been there. Never been anywhere near there.
I live in Texas now. Always wanted to see that part of the country.

Holtsville is on Long Island, about 60 miles from New York City.
For some reason, I think it might be a grim place. The kind of place that might have a state prison. Something like that.

i am traveling in august to the states and i always have this horrible fear that i am gonna get searched at the border. i don't carry anything on me for them to find, but if they don't find anything do they still let you through, or do they make you go through that whole ordeal for nothing then deny you entry?
