Hello BBG,
This is such a difficult question to answer because every US state has many things going for it.
And the "best" state only further enhances the question's degree of difficulty.
Every state has its own individuality, its distinctive scenic beauty, historical significance and (to a lesser degree) its own culture.
You cannot choose a best state by its inhabitants either. There is a vast difference of peoples living in every state.
I choose a best state by how at home I feel in them.
For me this title belongs to Montana, "Big Sky Country"

California Easy. Yeah the cost of living is higher but the Pay is far better. There Is always something to do. Weather Is Near perfect. And trust Me Eathquakes Really Arn't that Bad and arn't that frequent.
