I'm thinking of relocating to the DC area after this semester and want to find out what its like.

1. Employment opportunities
2. Cost of living
3. Diversity/population
4. Inexpensive apartments
5. Friendliness of residents
6. Transportation

Thanks for any tips!

Also any ideas of good areas to live? I'm coming from Scotland and I'm looking for a place to rent for about 2 months. Not too bothered about the location or number of people I'm sharing with as long as it's clean and safe-ish. Just a place to crash really. Also does anyone have any good general tips for a NYC newbie?

My boyfriend and I are planning a trip to NY for an overnight stay in December and we would like a hip, trendy, modern, hotel in Manhatten that is within our price range. Any info would be helpful!

On Sunday Nov. 12th I need to meet someone at the Greenbelt Station in MD at 7:45 am. I'm in NYC and don't know how to get there since I don't have a car. Does anyone know the cheapest way through public transportation? An online search brings up too many links without the info I need.

I'd like to take a drive from NYC this Sunday afternoon and was thinking of either the Delaware Water Gap or someplace upstate. If there is a pretty drive with something to see within 90 minutes of NYC, that is ideal.

I am about at my wits end here, can someone help me? All I want to find out is if 'hailing' a cab from Greenwich Village if you will be able to take the cab to Rutherford NJ and about how much it costs. I have called more cab companies than I have in a lifetime and I can't get an answer :( The distance is 12.4 miles....do they have a limit to where they go?! Gawd I feel ignorant here, but I could use some help....thanks to any and all!
P.S. I live in the midwest...i.e. ignorant of NYC cabs :)

I'm writing a story that takes place in NYC in a public junior high school. The only problem is that I've never been to NYC... are the public schools there generally nice? Are they in small buildings or large ones? Do they normally have scool uniforms? Any detailed information is appreciated!

The Lower East Side in one of the most historic BUT most happenin' neighborhoods in New York City. There aren't a lot of cool hotels in the area cos a lot of locals hang out there.... but the area's developing and hotels are starting to rise.

" Funky bars, boutiques and late-night eateries have made this neighborhood a hip destination." - from WHERENY magazine.

So.... if you were given the chance to stay in this hip place, what kind of hotel do you want to stay in (what amenities do you want to receive, for example) and why?

Please include your age and location when responding to this query. Thank you very much!
