During a short visit to NYC this past September, my cousin and I ended up staying in a wonderful hotel called the Exchange Hotel. It is located one block north of Wall Street and within walking distance to the WTC site. The hotel rooms are big with modern and trendy furniture. You even get a plasma TV in each room plus a complimentary breakfast. I paid about $100 (with taxes and fees) and that was only because I booked with the hotel through Priceline. I believe the average nightly cost is about $200. Good luck!!

The Casablanca Hotel, located just off Times Square at 147 W. 43rd Street. It's a boutique hotel, quiet and very comfortable. You should be able to find a room in your price range.

I just heard of this hotel opening on my block at 35th St / 5th Ave. Its about $350-389 in Dec. but comes with flat-screen wall mounted tvs, free movies channels, ipod docks, pet friendly, free wireless internet, free local calls.. steps from Macy's, Lord & Taylors, ESB, not too far from Rockefeller Ctr and the higher-end fifth ave shopping. Since no one knows its opening yet, you should be able to get a room before everything in Midtown Manhattan is booked solid for the holidays!!!
