If I were you, I would look for hotels through priceline.com. I have been to NYC twice and have used their services to find a hotel. I have not been disappointed. The first time I booked a hotel near Times Square for about $150 a night with taxes and fees. It was the Radisson hotel and it was very nice, comfy, and luxurious. The second time I went to NYC I stayed at the Exchange Hotel one block north of Wall Street. The Exchange was far more comfortable and luxurious than the Radisson and I only ended up paying $100 a night with everything. The Exchange Hotel even offered Plasma TVs and a complimentary breakfast.

This place is not so cheap but it is for sure luxurious ! There is a hotel That is not so up scale and a higher scale one. The higher class hotel is Sofitel New York which is breath taking. Then comes the more affordable hotel Novotel New York which is pretty comfy. If you want cheaper then that well you have a choice between Red Roof Inn and Motel 6. What ever is your choice I hope you enjoy your stay in New York. Also it depends on what part of NewYork you stay in. These hotels are mostly in the business district of New York.

I get ALL my hotel reservations through hotwire.com. I've never been disappointed. Don't go for the cheapest options if you want something nice... but they have ratings (both by "star level" and customer reviews, which I find more helpful) that you can look at.
I've never paid over $65/night for a room (but I typically stay at HoJo or Extended Stay America, etc... not the Hilton or anything). I've heard their 4star hotel rates are really cheap (compared to regular price) too though.

There are cheap hotels in Manhattan, and there are decent hotels in Manhattan, but there are no cheap, decent hotels in Manhattan.
