I'd like to take a drive from NYC this Sunday afternoon and was thinking of either the Delaware Water Gap or someplace upstate. If there is a pretty drive with something to see within 90 minutes of NYC, that is ideal.

Cross over the George. Take the Palisades Parkway (North) stop at the overlooks(There are a few). Follow to end, then continue north on 9W. The elevation climbs rapidly. On the right should will be some wonderful view of the Hudson, and West Point. Take in the Storm King Art Center, eat in the Newburgh area(There's 3-4 places near Stewart A/P). Cross the river on I-84, and take Rt 9 south back toward the city. This should take 4-5 hours. Nice.

New Paltz, NY. It's about one hour from the city. It's a very direct drive also. IIt has a great little town, and then you can go up to Mohonk Mountain, and Lake Minnewaska.(sp?) You can take a walk around the lake which is only about a mile. It's beautiful up there. If you're also looking for a great upstate town, Woodstock is about 25 more minutes from New Paltz and is a lot of fun. New Paltz does have the better country scenery though.

Go Mapquest New Hope, PA its gorgeous there is a quaint lil area called Peddler's Village to shop and have lunch and an are with great shops has been compared to Soho (not quite) but its really nice just the same. http://www.newhopepa.com/
If your up for a longer drive, 17 north to the NYS thruway visit the Catskill mountains bout 3 hour drive but its so worth the trip its beautiful. If you have more time go on Saturday find a B&B and spend the night. Hunter Mountain may have some fall festivals.

I did this drive last October and the nice part is that you can go for as short or as long of a drive as you want. It was very easy to get to from NYC. We stopped at lots of nice shops on the way.
