I'm thinking of relocating to the DC area after this semester and want to find out what its like.

1. Employment opportunities
2. Cost of living
3. Diversity/population
4. Inexpensive apartments
5. Friendliness of residents
6. Transportation

Thanks for any tips!

1. Depend on your career choice. Unemployment is at its lowest point since before 9/11/01.
2. Very high. Live in New Jersey.
3. It's New York for cryin' out loud.
4. see #2
5. Depends on where you live. In some neighborhoods, everyone still watches out for one another.
6. Within the city, just about the best in the world.

1. depends on what you do or plan to do. starting a career or just want to make money to pay the bills? naturally you can find both here, the beginning of any career you want or a job to give you time to figure that out...
2. insanely expensive no matter where you live. getting a roommate or two is a good idea.
3. extraordinarily diverse. lots of people everywhere, anytime you go there, but you'll never be bored and you'll be exposed to more different types of people than you even knew existed - and all on a random tuesday afternoon.
4. depends on your definition of "inexpensive." gets easier with a roommate and if you're willing to become very familiar with the subway.
5. we're delightful people. forget the nasty stereotypes. new yorkers are the most engaging, interesting, fun, helpful and protective (of each other) people you will ever meet. just keep an open mind and you'll be astonished at all the things you'll see and hear.
6. the subway is amazing. for $2 you can travel all the way from the financial capital of the known universe to the beach...anything you can find in the world you can find it here. and if it isn't here, it isn't worth having....

come to new york, and change your life....

I hate to interrupt it to you yet $a million,000 a month won't get you a studio or 1BR everywhere in ny that's remotely risk-free. in fact, except you're seeking to stay in the some distance outer boroughs, it won't do something for you. the fact of the issue is that low-priced studios in ny initiate around $1400/month. and those are closets. In a solid area of ny, you would be fortunate to locate a appropriate 2 mattress room for $a million,000/month. in case you DO settle directly to pass to the city suitable, do away with your automobile. in case you finally end up in the encompassing area, i could advise bringing it with you and figuring out from there in case you quite need to maintain it. pass-in will run you first, protection, and broker service value (8-10% of each and every year lease, regularly). you will locate an apartment with out value, yet practice to do the legwork.
