I'm a resort rep for the summer and only taking around 40-60 kilos of stuff with me, but I thought I could take a beach bag with some vest tops/shorts etc to make room in my case for the important things (my pillow! hehe) is this allowed? I know that they were cutting down on hand luggage recently.

I'm going in the beginning of June, and we're hitting up everything - North to South France, and yes, even Paris. I've got to pack light, but it's going to be a 12 day trip. What essentials do I need, and are there any fashion rules I should be aware of (like no flats in Paris, only heels)? I've no idea what the weather will be like, but I know it varies region to region, so I've got to have a broad arrangement. Help!

sometime this summer. [out-of-state]
Right now we're packing alot of things into bins so the house doesn't look so crowded. During spring break (next week) we're going to be packing alot more and doing minor improvements. However, there are quite a few repairs we have to do before we sell the house. We haven't put the house up for sale yet, and we're still in the process of getting jobs over there. So my question is, when is the latest we should put the hosue up for sale, have time to move during the summer and be completely settled in by the time school starts next year (2007-2008) ?

Thanks!

If you're over 16 and not yet got a 10 year adult passport, then you should apply for one BEFORE APRIL 2007.

On March 26 2006, the Identity and Passport Service opens some new offices as part of the build up to the ID card scheme that the Government wants to introduce. By the end of the year there will be 69 of these interrogation centres. People applying for their 1st adult passport from April 2007 will the guinea-pigs for a process the government is calling "Authentication by Interview".

You'll be called in to your nearest interrogation centre, fingerprinted + photographed and put through an "intrusive interview" (the Government's own words) to check that you can give answers about private details of your life that agree with the official ones.

The Government estimates that 1 in 4 people who apply under this new procedure will have to cancel their trip because they don't get their passport in time.

Maybe you should think about getting your passport now?

It seems to me the only way to do it is through the mail, which means I have to pay for shipping both ways? I also have to worry about if it gets lost? Is there any place I can physically go with passport in hand and two passport photos, they renew it while I wait, I pay them their fees, and then I go on my merry way?

I have a 3 inch utility knife I use during backpacking trips, and wonder what the regulations are. Ideally, I'd bring everything as carry-on, but don't think this is likely (my stuff isn't bulky/will fit into a backpack). Can I bring the knife through the security screen (before entering the terminals) and check my backpack/knife before I board?
