I believe that it usually averages around 8 weeks to get a passport in the US, however right now there are lot of people getting passports right now due to the new travel regulations. If you need one for a specific trip I would suggest that you allow plenty of time to get the passport before traveling.

Hope this helps!

I just received my passport in one day. I live in Texas and Houston has a passport (called the regional office). You can go to the regional office near you and with all of your applications filled out, fees of $97 for the passport and $60 for the expedite fee, passport photo and proof of citizenship you can have it that day. You also have to be traveling within 2 weeks of obtaining your passport. You have to show your trip plans (I used the itinerary the airline emailed me that showed proof of when I was flying). The phone number to call to see where the regional office near you is 1-877-487-2778. You have to make an appointment but you can make the appointment with the same number. I was quick, easy and painless. I had an appointment at 11am. I was there at 10am so I went ahead and signed in. I was out of there by 11:05am and was told to come back after 2:30 to pick up my passport. You can also go to www.travel.state.gov and click on the passport link for more info.

I hope this info helps!!! Like I said, it was very easy.

How Long Will it Take to Process a Passport Application?

Updated Processing Times

February-April is the busiest time of year for Passport Services, with Americans planning spring break and summer trips. The best advice is, “Apply Early!” Or even “now’” if you might be checking out deals on airfare or hotels outside the U.S.

If you are traveling or need your passport in order to get a visa within the next 10 days, please call us at the National Passport Information Center or use the link below to check the status of your application online.

If you have already applied but will not need your passport within the next two weeks:

Don't worry, please!!! There should be no need to contact us at this time. Our goal is to make sure that no one misses a trip. We have added staff and are working overtime across the country.

Checking the status of your application: You can check the status of your application online. Currently, it is taking up to 7 days for Expedited Applications and up to 3 weeks for Routine Applications to be tracked online. Please allow that much time before contacting us to check on your application.
If you apply And Choose

You will receive your passport within about

If you are not traveling within the next 10 days, please check the status of your application online, keeping in mind that it is taking approximately 3 weeks for our system to start tracking your application. If you are traveling within the next 10 days, please call or email the National Passport Information Center.

***Normally, Expedite Service takes 2 weeks to receive your passport from the date you applied. Because of unusually high demand, it is now taking 3-4 weeks and possibly longer if you renewed by mail and did not mark “Expedite” on the mailing envelope. If you haven’t received your passport and are traveling within the next 10 days , please call or email the National Passport Information Center .
