Right now the restrictions seem to be focusing on liquids and gels, you can bring them with you but they have to be limited in size. I would suggest that before you travel you visit the TSA website as they have the complete list of what you can and can not bring on the aircraft with you in both your checked and carry on luggage.

Hope this helps and have a great trip!

No knives, scissors incl nail scissors, metal nail files, razor blades etc.

No aerosols, gas cannisters (for hair tongs), explosives.

Be aware that many airports/airlines are only allowing you to take ONE bag as hand-luggage and it has to be within certain size and weight restrictions.

You can take liquids & gels, but they each have to be less than 100ml and must fit into a small-medium sized plastic zip-lock bag (and it has to be sealed) .

Check your airline's website for exact info before you travel to the airport.

Here's the US Transportation Security Administration's website with their list of permitted and prohibited items: http://www.tsa.gov/travelers/airtravel/prohibited/permitted-prohibited-items.shtm

If you're traveling into or out of the UK the restrictions are slightly different... metric for one thing, and 100ml bottles (3.4 oz instead of 3 oz in a one liter bag 20cm x 20cm (8" x 8") instead on one quart 8" x 7.75"). Check the British Airways website: http://baa.com/ If you're traveling in the US, I'd go with the smaller size bottles, but the metric size bag should be OK.
