We have 2 boys 13 and 18 and we've been going on long car trips with them since they were babies. We have always had each of our kids pack their own backpack of things to do for a trip. When they were small, we would check to see what they had but now we figure they know what they want. Books and personal electronics are good, also magnetic travel games if your kids like those. Our younger son likes to draw so he packs his art supplies, the older one has his own laptop so that’s his main activity. Cameras and/or video cameras are fun if you have them.

You don't say where you live and how far the drive to Orlando is. If your kids aren't used to being in the car for long periods of time, stop often and make them get out and walk around, even if they don't want to, it will help a lot. If they don't get along, separate them in the car if you can.

Bring plenty of snacks, not just junk food, but also some healthy stuff that they will eat--try grapes, string cheese, maybe apples, and not too much soda, try juice or water instead.

Good luck and have fun on your trip!

It definately makes a difference on where you are driving from. I moved from CT to FL and it took about 19 hours. Are you driving non stop for a shorter distance? If so, then pack maybe fruit or cheesits for the kids, if they get along, maybe splurge and buy a portable dvd player (they were about $80 at Macy's so I am sure are cheaper elsewhere) movies tend to keep their attention and that's a good thing on a road trip!
Have a fun and safe trip.

Are you driving from Jacksonville? or Seattle? How can we give you any advice if you don't give enough information?
