I always exchange some money to cover things like a drink or a cab when I first land. After that I use my debit/atm card or credit cards.

Change your money there. Take your ATM. Make sure your "PIN" is 4 numbers and can be used internationally. Talk to your bank to see what you're daily limit is. There will be ATMs at the airport. You won't have a charge on their end, but your bank will probably have an international transaction fee.... so get a couple of hundred dollars at a time because the fee will be the same whether it's $20 or @300.

Take a credit card with you. You'll get a good rate when you use that too. Try to find one with the smallest international transaction fee if you can. Remember some small restaurants and hostels and B&Bs won't take credit cards.

We still carry travelers check.... just habit. It used to be the safest way to carry money, but we seldom cash them anymore.

And be sure to take a money belt to keep your money and credit cards safe. Here is our page on dealing with "foreign money": http://www.mousetourstravels.com/money.html

Change some money here you don't whant to be stock some where just because you don't have money not everyone takes credit card. Even though its better to use your credit card you should never go out without any cash you never know something might happen and you might need the maney on that moment and will not have time to look for an ATM

The best rate is to use your ATM in Europe. They normally don't charge any fees either, unlike the ripoff banks here. Unfortunately, in the last couple years US banks have caught on and now charge International Fees (whether withdrawing or charging) so you might want to check with your bank. If the fee is low enough, I think it's still the best exchange rate. Have fun!
