My husband is an engineer and we are hoping he will get into Australia with a skilled migrant visa with me (his wife) and our 7yr old son. But not sure the best way to go about visas, costs and time scales etc any advise re the whole emigrating from scotland to adelaide would be very much appreciated as its seems very daunting just now!

I am trying to make a list of all the places for us to see. I have a pretty good list going on, but I would like to hear about some stuff from the locols. Some hot spots that most people might not find online. Restaurants mostly, but maybe some nice bars. My husband and I dont really like to party like 18 year olds, but I would like to find a nice bar to get a drink and maybe do some dancing. Also, is there a place that has slow dancing? Not like piano music, but music that you can just slow dance to. ummmm any other info would be great. We will be there for 10 days.

Also, if we bring our camera are we going to be able to plug it into your outlets (to charge it)? Or will we need a converter and if so how much do they run?

OK, I know that Darwin is the capitol of the Northern Territory, but Alice Springs is also marked with a star symbol on my globe (they both are) can someone explain to me why this would be? Is there a special significance to Alice Springs or what?

I'm visiting melbourne, aust. for at least 4 weeks, I am sure I'm going to fall in love with it and want to stay longer especially since i'm going to visit my best guy friend. I've cked out the visa sites and it says that an ETA is basically a visa but there is no stamp. But the prices for purchasing either one are different. The ETA says can stay up to 3 months at a time w/ability to go in and out over 12 month period. But the Tourist visa which is more expensive doesnt really say how long i can stay at a time. Also it makes it seem like I would be able to add on additional months should i decided to stay longer. Is that true? or should I just go for the cheaper one?
