I was wondering if anyone knows what's the process for getting an Australian work visa, and how long that process will take. I think I would need a Temporary Business (Long Stay) - Standard Business Sponsorship (Subclass 457) visa.

Thanks

I would be working with my future employer, so I was wondering how long it will take if I have a employer in place. Would I be able to go and start work on another visa, like the holiday working visa first or something? Then get a permanent work visa?

Expect that the process will take up to a year, and that you have to have a sponsor in Australia before the process can even begin. In some cases, the process is expedited (as for instance, if yo are going to be hired by a government agency, or if the empoloyer who is sponsoring you has "friends in high places", but for the average Joe, this can be a very frustrating procedure. It helps to work with an immigration agent in some cases. There is a lot of variation in how this particualr subclass is handled. Good Luck!

Start with the Department of Immigration web site http://www.immi.gov.au
If all your questions are not answered there I will be very surprised. You can also get all the necessary forms there.
