I mean, obviously I'm a traveller. I'm going to Melbourne for a week (suss it out, thinking of moving there). I live in Brisbane (have my whole life).

SO, Is that wierd? Do people do that? Am I allowed to do that or when I arrive will they be like " err, you're quite clearly not a backpacker ".

Are travellers cheques accepted as currency in Australia like they are in the US? Or do you have to change them into cash (of course, I do mean Australian Dollar Travellers Cheques)?

I'm sitting in an internet cafe as i write this. I'm currently ok as i have £400 in my purse which i stole from my abusive ex-father (i itend to divorce my parents if that's possible) now wondering what to do. After a particularly abusive episode i stole my father's credit card, booked a flight to australia, and here i am. I've long intended to go live in australia; i've just gone about it the wrong way! I've binned my passport because i refuse to go back; it's probably on it's way to a distant rubbish dump by now. The only ID i have (being only 16) is my birth certificate, which i'm keeping hidden. At the moment i'm staying in a hotel but will soon be moving onto the streets because i want to save money; weather is glorious. But what the hell do i do now? I need to go to school! I have nowhere to live. How can i convince some official to let me stay? Desperately want education, but would rather be a street bum than put in some vile british care home. Help? Thanks!

I have heard that to be given a visa and allowed into Australia, they prefer people who are going to offer them jobs and skilled people they need and are short of.
I have heard they need teachers so they would easily except them, but do they need child nursery workers that will set up their own business?

Me and my friend would like to live over there and set up our own nursery business but I don't know if they would accept us.

Also, is Australia cheaper than England or not?

My husband and I want to move with our children out of this god forsaken crap of a country we call the U.S.A. We really want to move to Australia but we don't know where a good place to live in Australia would be. We are not city people but don't want to be too far away from stores, restaurants, and movie theaters, we have two school age children, we like nice warm weather, and we both need to work. We don't know much about Australia except for what we have read. If anyone could give me some good info that would be really great! :)
