Are travellers cheques accepted as currency in Australia like they are in the US? Or do you have to change them into cash (of course, I do mean Australian Dollar Travellers Cheques)?

We took Australian travellers cheques with us in June, you have to turn them into cash at banks or those little kiosks, to tell you the truth I think they are a total rip off, we were charged $65 to change a $500 dollar travellers cheque at one bank in Cairns yet the little kiosk on the esplanade charged us nothing, next time we go it will be paper money for us and no travellers cheques.

australian travel cheques are accepted in all hotels at no cost and can be cashed at the issuer bank free as like american express t/c`s. passport is needed to cash your cheques as ID. i suggest you use a debit card in preference to t/c`s, they are cheaper, again, use banks linked with your debit card. i use a mixture of currency for travel, t/c`s, debit card, credit card, and some cash

I have never heard or seen Australian dollar travellers checks, so Idont know, however Travellers checks are a waste of time and money now days, just use a debit or ATM card instead and you will save money

They can be but some shops won't take them.

Suncorp Bank doesn't charge you to exchange them. Depending where you are you'll be able to find a Suncorp. So you won't get charged bundles. Some places may, though, so be careful.
