I heard old folks said that Dong Zhi is celebrated more importantly than CNY. Family members suppose to come home for re-union dinner.

I am planning a trip to China sometime in 2007 (maybe in the Spring). I have to admit, I am both excited and nervous. I will be going with my boyfriend, who is Chinese-American and who knows and taught me Chinese. So when it comes to language, I'm not concerned. This will also be my boyfriend's first time visiting China. I was just wondering as an American and Caucasian, how will I be treated there? Will this be a good experience for me, as well as my boyfriend?

Thanks. : )

Have seen small pictures, in the past, of places like this, but was wondering if they do exist. Long streets that sell computer parts, cameras and gadgets instead of the chickens, fish, dogs and spices.

I'm neither American nor Chinese. I'm just curious because I have heard from various sources that America is threatened by China which is predicted to become the world's "super power" in the near future... a position currently held by the US?

We are planning to travel next March - May from India to Nepal, and then on into China via Tibet. It seems you can only go through tibet if you have a group visa, so you have to do a group tour, and these are very expensive!!! Does anyone know of a cheap way to travel through Tibet, or details of some cheap group tours to get there? Please let us know any good websites/tour leaders!

As a birthday surprise, I'm treating my mum to two nights in HK's Peninsula hotel (6th-8th July). Ideally I want to book a Grand Deluxe Harbour View Room but none of the discount sites have this option listed for these dates. I can, however, go direct via the hotel's site. Should I wait to see if the discount appears on the other sites and risk missing out on availability, or should I book it now through the Pen's site and risk getting a better deal elsewhere?

Big thanks!!

I will be there from the 24th to 29th Dec but I am clueless about what to wear. What will the weather be like? Is thermal underwear necessary? Can I just wear a sweater over a t-shirt, jeans and a coat? And would shoes like ballet-styled flats be inappropriate? What about ordinary Converse sneakers?
