I've read some horror stories over the net about slimeball recruiters and even more shady hogwan owners. Apparently withholding pay, passports and changing contracts and working hours are the order of the day in many English teaching institutes in S.Korea.I've even read stories where airfare and severance bonuses (as agreed to and signed by all parties concerned) were also withheld. I'm applying for positions through ParkEnglish.com. Can anyone tell me whether they're reliable? Are there reliable recruiters for Korean teaching jobs?If so, who can you recommend?

I am looking for an electronic dictionary that has Korean, Japanese, and Chinese on it for a good price. I have found several made by iRiver and Sharp, but they are all pretty high priced... what do you think about the older models like iRiver D10 or Sharp RD-7700... or should I just pay the extra for the newer models? Is it worth it?
Do you know any good sites to purchase from? They are cheaper on Korean Sites, but they do not ship to the USA so... HELP!!!!

I know that you cannot get a work visa for teaching English in Korea unless you have a degree. I have a friend that says if you go into the country on a visitor's visa, then find a job while you are there, you can apply for a work visa and get aroung the degree issue. Does anyone know if this is true?

Any of you have anything to add, that might prove helpful from your own experiences there ??

I would like the opinion of some westerners living in China. I would like to spend some time living in China, either as an English teacher or just perfecting my Chinese as I believe the best way to learn a language is to be around fluent speakers. What is it like for a westerner to live in China? How are we seen? Are there any prejudices if so please give me an example? How is the day to day life of a westerner living in China different from the locals? And any other information would be appreciated thank you or should I say Xie Xie ^_^.

We're travelling in a group and will be in both professional settings and homestays for a month in Southern Thailand. We'd like ideas that would convey something about American culture, but reallly just need to know what people would like to recieve, what's appropriate for someone hosting you in their home, etc. We have little trinkets (keychains, business card holders with American flag logos, etc.), and other ideas like US art/photo cofeetable books... any other ideas?
