I have a dear friend who is in India right now, she has been there about 3 weeks.. She sends a joint e-mail to all her friends, and so far she is doing fine.. She is on a Spiritual Journey and is alone.. I can't say that I don't worry about her because I do...She has met up with people from other places in the world who are also on the same journey.. She has her own agenda, so she is not always in the company of the people she has bonded to...BTW she is 24 yrs old.. Before she returns to Aust in about 18 mths, she will have been in Afghanistan and Pakistan.. I know that she is doing the entire British Isles, then lastly USA... My friend obviously thinks it is safe otherwise she would no venture to these places.. She is also a very feminine girl and not a tom boy.. I wish her a safe journey, and anyone else who undertakes something like this.... Love and Light.. BB.. )O(

Islamabad is usually safe for westerners but i would personally not go. If you do go make sure to stay away from the North West Frontier Province and the Federally Administered Tribal Areas, on the Afghan border. These are a hotbead of terrorist activity, as shame really because i would love to visit Pakistan it looks really nice and the Pakistani people in general are really nice. If you do go, Have a good one.

you'll be fine. The current conflicts along the afghan border and in the tribal regions are exactly that, tribal conflicts!! Aside from the very public execution of Daniel Pearl a few years back, there has never been any incidences of tourists being abducted or killed in Pakistan. Pakistan is nominally pro-western country and if you cover up your legs and upper arms then you shouldn't get any unwanted hastle. Are your friends over there going to put you up and take you about the place? If so then you will certainly be safe. Don't let the views of a few armchair experts put you off seeing and experiencing something totally new!

Yes, but only if you travel with a Swiss or similar passport...they might detain you for a while. A friend's father went to the middle east in the 80's with a Swiss passport and had no trouble....

To get a Swiss passport, you need to be Swiss though....

I would wait or just write

Remember to respect their customs while you are there. Also, find a reputable travel agent to help with your arrangements. They will be able to tell you what is expected of you while you are there. You'll also want to check with your travel agent about any travel warnings or restrictions that may be currently imposed on that destination, that will affect your visit. Bon Voyage.

Now, why would like to go there? Have you been all over the world already? Those are places to visit once there nothing else to see, but if this is your case, well, good luck!

I do not think it would be seen as appropriate for a woman to travel alone. Why don't you ask a male relative or friend to go with you?
