Usually, I traded in my travellers cheques at any commercial bank for thai bahts. This is because most local thai merchants do not want to bother with the verification of the authenticity of the cheques. Though, the big major department stores do accept them. I still think that exchanging your traveller cheques into thai currency 'baht' is a sure bet and most convenient while your're already landed in thailand.

I only have experience of American Express US dollar Traveller's cheques. All major banks change them for Thai Baht - Bangkok Bank, Siam Commercial Bank, Bank of Ayuthaya, Thai Military Bank. Generally the rate is slightly better than the rate that is received when changing cash.

As for relying on ATM cards, I have heard of cases where, for no apparent reason, the ATM machines won't take them. I wouldn't rely on ATM cards as a sole source of money when visiting Bangkok. If people do want to do the ATM thing it might be best to have an emergency supply of traveller's cheques just in case.

A number of banks in Thailand will not change Thomas Cook Traveller's Cheques. Best bet is to use those issued by American Express or Travelex.

Many hotels will often change most types of traveller's cheques but at less favourable rates than banks or foreign exchange booths.

The advantage of traveller's cheques is that they are insured against loss or theft and can usually be replaced quite quickly without too much hassle.

Bangkok has hundreds (if not thousands) of those little booths that will change your cheques for you, I take the Nationwide flex account card and use the ATMs I find this way much better.

Prepaid Visa cards and the like are taking the place of Travelers cheques. You can use them in Atm machines

Like mentioned beforehand, use of credit card and ATm card is pretty common in Thailand now. In fact, there are less people using traveler checks nowadays. In fact you should do this next time round, carry an ATM card for your money. So very convenient now. plus no commission on the tc that you have to buy and exchange. And better inter-bank exchange rate when you withdraw your money in bahts while in Thailand.

tourist's cheques might want to get replaced in Turkey yet are not to any extent further that worry-free. you should use credit/debit playing cards truly in Turkey. they're huge-spread in only about all shops, eating places and lodges. There are ATMs at each and every economic employer that settle for Visa, get admission to etc. you may also spend overseas change (US $, £ and Euros) in all vacationer places. If I were you, i does no longer worry with tourist's cheques.

with the credit cards becoming popular, travellers cheques are loosing their market.

due to current political culture and money laundering issues, people are hesitant in accepting travellers cheques, and that is why credit cards are becoming more popular .

i think u can load a travelex debit card and use it at atms, much convinient and easy to carry -

travellers cheques are loosing their charms.

I neaver use traveler cheques in Thailand, you get a better deal by just using your Debit card. I have used my Debit card all over the world, even in the former Soviet union, no problems.

You cannot use traveler checks as in the USA, like currency - - they must be exchanged at banks or currency exchange booths for Thai baht... remember, you are in a foreign country and dollars are not their currency and cannot be used with local merchants anymore that your local store, in your country, will accept payment in baht
