Yup, that's me. I've been here for almost 3-months and have been filled with FEAR from the moment I got here. I've never felt so terrorized in my life--not even after 9-11. And I haven't even been robbed or victimized in anyway (Is it because I don't go and haven't been anywhere? ........Probably). But I assume there has to be something great and (POSITIVELY UNIQUE) about this country...

So if you're South African, PROUDLY SOUTH AFRICAN (like that radio advert says), can you share some of your more wonderful experiences with me?

I prefer to hear from South Africans who are currently here in RSA...we all know how nostalgia can cloud the memory. After 3 months here, I swear I was eating the best food, with the best people, and had the best social life when I was back home (USA).

I want to know what you think of President George W. Bush? Are you also against him like most of the people or do you think he's a great president? You know I'm from South Africa but I like George Bush and I wish we can have someone like him as our president.

I have seen a lot of racist comments on this forum......are black people in USA, UK, and other countries including african countries different to the black people in south africa and why? Do you accept the other black people in the other countries as your equal or do you see them as "below" you. Im not trying to incite a black/white fight or anything. I just want honest opinions with your reasons for this. My view is that white and black in SA are equal unfortunately as a result of our history some sections of the population missed out on the education etc that the whites got and therefore the older generation are not educated enough to reach therir full potential, and as a result they were not "clever" enough to see through the marxist views and fell for them. The new generation are generally on a par with whites, except for the poor in the platteland who do not have access to decent services and education

Today (November 16th) is International Day for Tolerance. Who is the one person you are gonna tolerate today and live together with in peace and as a good neighbour? I'm gonna bury the hatchet with my boss, whom I've been thinking of giving a "moerse klap".

The National Assembly has passed the bill that says a marriage is now "a voluntary union between persons" and not "a man and a woman". It must now be approved by the National Council of Provinces and President Thabo Mbeki. What's your take on everything that happened yesterday and of the Supreme Court of Appeal's ruling in favour of a same-sex couple, declaring that the previous law was discriminatory?

I'm here in Jozie. Well actually, I'm working in Westbury and living in Roodeport. I'm looking a new place to live and friends.

1. Where (in which area) can I find a nice place to stay for around 2000R/month including electricity and water? The place should be about a taxi ride away from Westbury and in walking distance from a grocery store (like Checkers or Spar), a take-away restaurant or two (and mall?).

2. I only have Saturday afternoons to Monday mornings free. Where can I go to meet people (in their twenties) during that time?

3. If you're in or from the area, send me an e-mail (diggs2002@yahoo.com), I have tons of questions esp. about public transportation.

No.
The vast majority of folks in South Africa - white, black and everything in between - are hard-working, decent people, that want to live full lives, with the logical pursuit of happiness, free of the current nightmare of AIDS, crime and government corruption.
Every one of the contributors to this forum, including the numbskulls, are at heart good, earnest and genuine men and women.

South Africa is at its core an amazing place, with particularly unique cultures, warm, friendly people and, if allowed, incredible potential.
There are not many places on Earth that offer such panoramic scenery, genuine wildlife, a warm, embracing population and generally good people.

The food is great, there is so much to see, and, the criminal scum aside, South Africans will wecome people with open arms,
especially now that the nightmare of apartheid has been tossed into the scrap-heap of history.

I mean this from the heart - Amandla!

In my various meanderings through this site, seeing all the denial, wishful thinking, grovelling at the feet of the ANC and genuine sad despair at what has happened to a once great country, that has befallen the fate of all self-ruled African countries - poverty, sickness and general anarchy - I am always slightly amused at the people that have this Hollywoodized vision of the USA.

Do some of you guys actually believe that street gangs roam the streets, that there are car chases, that people carry guns here and that the Mafia controls everything?

Such childish thinking about the USA could not be further from the truth. Things are organized here; citizens by and large respect one another, there is effective law enforcement, and, speaking for the great city of New York, since 1994 we have experienced dramatic drops in crime and renewed investment in this great city.

A footnote: the same team that revolutionized NYC were hired to try to do the same for Jo'burg a few years ago.

that according to policy, since this question got pulled, up it goes again?

To recap:
Apparently there was some buzz, since discredited, that Neil Watson's site crimexposesouthafrica was the work of a phony.
Before the truth eventually came out, which was that the entire sordid exercise of his so-called exposure was the work of parties trying to silence him with lies and innuendo, with those parties now facing civil legal action, there was the hope that since he had been 'exposed', all the crime would disappear, along with his website.

With the closing of the website, all the murder would automatically vanish. So would the gang rape of infants, the murderous carjackings and the brutal home-invasions.
There would be no more muggings, bank-robberies, breaking and entry, along with the magical elimination of all and every crime perpetrated by both the savages running amok in the street and the ones running the country.

None of that will happen now. Sorry guys.
