Hi.
I'm not sure if I'm an expat but I work in the UK for a South African company. I remain South Afr... No! Let me rephrase. I remain Proudly South African. I wish I could get out of this sh*t hole as soon as possible and go back to South Africa. One year 3 months left on my contract here before I go back to SA. Can't wait.

Living in China have not emmigrated working for a SA company on the Quality assurance side in the textile and garment field, will be returning home in Feb next year for a short while and then back to this part of the world again , no other choice because of cheap labour and very high production levels which are not achievable back home, damn what a pity.

Hi I am a Capetonian and proudly so and then a South African - other Captonians will get my drift.
I have given myself 10 years to have an adventure - live and work - in London but will definitely be returning to the Cape. I left all my stuff in storage there. So knew that I would return when I left but nevertheless like the others there is never a day that goes by that I am not reminded of something that I miss - not to mention my mountain!

Hiya.
I'm a Saffer living and studying in London, England.
I miss home, and dream of returning, but I have no idea what my own future as well as the future of SA holds, so I just wait for the day that I feel the time is right to return.
I visit my folks every year and I miss our family home down by the coast a lot, especially when it is cold and rainy here in London, and I know that it is sunny in SA now.

Yes I left SA to stay in the UK I have been here for 5yrs, but go back once a year for a holiday and visit my family, I do miss parts of SA ( Cape Town area ) but I have made my home abroad, I don't intend to stay in the UK but move to Holland, I ran a furniture removal company in Cape Town but am now a Research Technician for a pet company in the UK, I will still visit SA every chance I get.

Hi, I am still in South Africa in Pta. I've never left this country for work abroad, although I visited Bangkok for holiday. The 2 months I was there, I missed SA a lot.
And as Bad Brad would point out, SA is full of crime, this country is not for the faint hearted, which makes me a strong hearted lady and I love it.
I studied Teaching but do not teach. Not enough money!!!

Hi Exsaffer2. Welcome to the unofficial international SA chatroom. Nice to see a fresh face here.
I temporarily work in Taiwan, teaching English to children. The Chinese culture is totally different from anything anywhere in the world and it's hard to adapt to this way of thinking and doing, which is not only different, but often opposite from Western thinking and doing.
Its different from other foreign environments where SAcans work in that the local language and culture is so far removed from the "West" that all people who are not from Chinese origin are grouped together under the term "foreigners". The SAcans here often hang out with Canadians, Americans, British, Aussies and Kiwis because we can communicate and their cultures are only 2 lightyears away from ours and not 792 lightyears away as is the Chinese culture.
Taiwan offers a safe, unchanging (relative to SA) environment with good income. I am grateful to my host country for this.
But every second of every day I yearn for my home South Africa, which I dearly love, and look forward to the day I can go back.

Hi there everybody!
Yes I have been living in Portugal for the last 15 years. One thing is shure it is not easy to be so far away from your friends and family and your traditions and Your People. I am shure every person out side of SA feels the same. After all it is the people that makes the country and then come the other things like weather landscapes and see etc.
In SA I was a credit controler for Absa. Here I had to start looking for a job when my husband who works on construction was with out a job 4 nearly a year. I got a job in a clothing factory to cut exess lines of the garments, horrendous job, then I went for an ironing job and finally got lucky to get a position as general office and stock clerk for an english company that does reconstruction of gearboxess. Unfortunately had to leave after dad died to be able to go to SA. I am going to visit Mom in Desember 4 3months and hope 2 take a cours in dog grooming during this time. Dit is bad as n mens nie die taal kan praat soos jy moet nie!!!
I would like to stay for ever, but unfortunattely we still have 2 many people like Alf Garnet 2 whom I want 2 say the next. We do not need rasists. I am 46 years old and have never been a rasist (at least not after I could think 4 myself.)
