I personally don't think same sex marriage is a right thing. It's just not natural. I don't think the South African government trully support it, but will probably approve it because there's a larger community of gays and lesbians now in South Africa, especially in Cape Town. The government's strategy of approving it will be to market this group of community, trying to maximize their (ANC) chances of winning elections.

I think that equal rights are in order. It's ironic that a nation so plaqued with apartheid a decade ago is the first and most progressive towards the homosexual cause. Still, how will such a developing economy cope with the burden of same-sex abortions?

I am not gay but I approve of the bill because it helps to uphold our countries constitution. Discrimination in all forms needs to be abolished in South Africa, homosexuals should be no exception. The constitution ensures freedom of religious belief, therefore is not responsible for upholding predominantly Christian principles.

Abortion is legal, death sentence is no more...we basically all have equal rights and also the right to freedom of choice. So let it be with same sex marriages...either way our country still has a whole lot of other issues to deal with. I personally would appreciate it if we were spending as much time and money trying to find ways of resolving crime and also bringing an end to poverty and unemployment.

I am not from South Africa, so I may not have any bearing in this debate/conversation. However, I would lik to say that I am pleased that South Africa is recognizing "a voluntary union between persons." I am considered my boyfriend's "domestic partner" and am eligible for health benefits through his company (as he is through mine). I feel that this is a positive step and I am proud that it is coming to fruition.

Everyone to his or her own partners. Now what should be passed into law and upheld in our courts is the new Rape Law. Including sodomy and anal rape. If they passed this marriage law then Rape law has to be passed. Just my point of view.

Funny how everyone who usually whines about how blacks were discriminated against has no problem telling homosexuals they are unequal.
And all this nonsense about what 'God' would want. There is no such thing as 'God', but if there were, if He (or She) thought that homosexuals were unnatural or an abomination, He or She wouldn't have created them in the first place.
I don't see this legislation really going anywhere. Blacks are some of the most homophobic people on the planet, with homosexuality actually against the law in many African countries.

I think it is high time. Not to allow this is discriminatory and against the constitution of the country.
I am shocked at the bigotry here and people hiding behind "god" and the bible for their believes, but then the same entities of god and bible were used to enforce apartheid, so go figure...
