Aside from the two idiots that have done the obvious thing and called me gay - which, for the record, I'm anything but - I'm really amused that the same people that are always crying about the evils of apartheid and wallowing in the past treatment of white people toward blacks, have no problem exacting what amounts to apartheid toward the gay community.

Are gay people not 'God's' children, also? Do they not pay their taxes, same as anyone else? Are they not entitled to the same pursuit of life, liberty and happiness that the ANC's 'struggle' was supposed to be about?
Why should they not be allowed to enter into a legal civil union with one another? Are they bothering anyone else? Does their pursuit of the same things that we all want impact your lives in any way negatively?

Next time I pose a question that results in epiphets like 'racist' and 'apartheid' lover' thrown my way, I'm going to remind those people of this question and the answers I got to it.

There are claims that SA leads the World with this legislation and personally I dont believe that is where SA should be. The matter is very contentious Worldwide and better for SA to follow. Diesel says there is a large Gay community in SA which surprises me but is their vote of any consequence in the bigger scheme of things? I think they should have legislated half away and approved the union status but it seems they are hoist by their own petard in having one of the most advanced Constitutions in the World.

I really don't know if the ANC has done the right thing. All I know is that this kind of legislation has always been universaly very controversial. It looks like the ANC is dangerously gambling. I think the ANC is trying to gain support from the gay and lesbian community which now constitutes a very large percentage of population in South Africa. The question is, How big is the percentage of the ANC supporters who are totally against same-sex marriage, and who could potentally quit supporting ANC? There are too much controversial issues in South Africa and I don't think SA is ready to invite another one (this one). Just my personal point of view.

Gunner - why don't you grow out of your cheap stinky nappies and give a reply which actually means something.
I think ANC is heading for a total moral-meltdown. Take last nights Special Assigment. It was about abortions and young girls - and the sisters at the clinics don't even blink when they mention that girls as young as TEN are having abortions. Others at age 17 are having multiple abortions. When asked whether they used protection some said no and when asked whether they knew of the dangers of HIV and AIDS they said they did. The sisters say that girls think that abortion is a contraceptive. Thats just one of the ANC freedom of choice type ideals. Who knows what new complications will popup with this same-sex marriage stuff in our twisted little country where half-a*# decisions are being made and ignorance is the order of the day.

No, I don't think that's a good idea... SA's constitution is way too liberal for a developeding country. That leads to a lack of law and order. It doesn't help you have the most advanced constitution in the world, and you don't have the capacity/resources. On the other hand, although it's against be religious believes, same sex marriages would've been legalised in 5 years in anyway... Is it part of the secualar humanist ideology? Just my personal opinion!

Apparently the ANC ordered all it's MP's to vote in favor of the bill.
So much for democracy.
It is a good bill, but has only been introduced in the UK this year.
Don't know if SA is ready for this? I mean folks back home are much more conservative than the Brits, it's hard to imagine that the majority will welcome it with open arms.

Get it right, its not the ANC but the government. They don't make the decisions, all parties together made the disgusting decision.
