The vast majority of folks in South Africa - white, black and everything in between - are hard-working, decent people, that want to live full lives, with the logical pursuit of happiness, free of the current nightmare of AIDS, crime and government corruption.
Every one of the contributors to this forum, including the numbskulls, are at heart good, earnest and genuine men and women.
South Africa is at its core an amazing place, with particularly unique cultures, warm, friendly people and, if allowed, incredible potential.
There are not many places on Earth that offer such panoramic scenery, genuine wildlife, a warm, embracing population and generally good people.
The food is great, there is so much to see, and, the criminal scum aside, South Africans will wecome people with open arms,
especially now that the nightmare of apartheid has been tossed into the scrap-heap of history.

Dir 33 - I'm not a former anything. I've been an American citizen for ten years and resided in this great country for sixteen years now.
I'm not on any fence, my friend. My positions are quite clearly defined; I love the core of what South Africa is, but hate what it has become.

Wow Brad! I didn't ever imagine something like that would ever come out of your mouth! It's nice to know that behind all your other anti SA questions and answers you do actually have something good to say about South Africa and thank you for being honest! I hope you'll take the chance to come and visit our country again and see that it's not all that bad even first hand. I personally love it here!

So so true my friend but it is being stopped from realising this position by the criminal scum and corrupt Government who act as if they are looting a shop. South Africans of all colours need to waken up to the ANC and realise what they are doing to the Country. The majority of citizens are not better off - only the elite in the ANC. In 1994 the majority of South Africans took the notion of peace and reconciliation at face value and set about making South Africa the next US. In the years that followed their hopes were dashed as they saw the rise of crime,racist employment laws,corruption at all levels and an attitude of we are entitled. Many, many of the Whites left with a heavy heart and still there remain many more who could turn it all around if they were given the opportunity from a Government who were honest and decent. Today it is all about dog eat dog in the mad scramble to stay alive and working. The ANC has the population at each other's throats whilst it loots the Country and supports the despots of Africa as well as consorting with some of the worst human rights offenders on the Planet. Lets hope it all turns around and South Africa can take its place as a Country to be proud of.

Hey man i have no problems with your questions at all and enjoy the reactions you get, Brad just go for it we all need to get stirred every now and then. Yes it's true we have become immune to all that is going on around us, it's a normal defence meganism kicking in look we are very aware of the problems, we live with it all day and every day of our lives, all we hold onto is the hope that it will be as it was before, law and order and safe it might be a pipe dream but we live with that hope.

I think thats how we all feel, and that we all are hoping and praying that the problems in SA will get sorted.
Dwali once said in a question (and I agree with him): South Africa is only half as good as it could be!
But still the 50% that isnt bad (nature, animals, beautifull coasts, friendly people and good food) is very good!

I think Brads normal remarks are very true and maybe its by time that us living here should take a good hard look at what is going on round us and stop complaining about the government and start doing and demanding what we want. Very true, I just wish there were some way we could get rid of these slimey pond-scum sucking leeches who prey on (I mean rob, rape and murder) people who actually work for what they have. And also every slimey pond-scum sucking corrupt leech in this country.
