Well, the issue is settled - according to Andre Pruis, deputy national commissioner of the South African Police Services, soccer enthusiasts have nothing to worry about at the World Cup because, "Where the soccer is going to take place, where the stadiums are, where the police are, there will be low crime levels"
Apparently police stations in more isolated areas of the country are the ones that deal with violent crime and sexual assault on a regular basis, because,"Unfortunately these police stations are in areas still suffering from the past of our country."
So there you have it, crime is centralized only in isolated areas, and - of course - it's all apartheid's fault.
Even if this denialist fantasy were true, I expect magic will keep the criminals and thugs from leaving the 'isolated areas' to prey on the new blood at the World Cup.
One thing's for sure though, any European soccer hooligans are in for a rude awakening if they try to ply their trade.
