Well, the issue is settled - according to Andre Pruis, deputy national commissioner of the South African Police Services, soccer enthusiasts have nothing to worry about at the World Cup because, "Where the soccer is going to take place, where the stadiums are, where the police are, there will be low crime levels"

Apparently police stations in more isolated areas of the country are the ones that deal with violent crime and sexual assault on a regular basis, because,"Unfortunately these police stations are in areas still suffering from the past of our country."

So there you have it, crime is centralized only in isolated areas, and - of course - it's all apartheid's fault.
Even if this denialist fantasy were true, I expect magic will keep the criminals and thugs from leaving the 'isolated areas' to prey on the new blood at the World Cup.

One thing's for sure though, any European soccer hooligans are in for a rude awakening if they try to ply their trade.

Because 2010 will be held in the US. You may get the European thugs go to the US but not likely to South Africa. They are mostly working class and can bearly afford to go and see the local Team. A trip to another European Country is an adventure and a possibility but SA is too far,too expensive and way too unsafe.

I think it is responsible to warn tourists. In Australia they have a government website with tourist advise for different countries. South Africa is included there and it mentions some of the crimes, ofcourse nothing in there of the personal nature some of the crimes takes on. Because so many South Africans are living overseas or have friends overseas, I am sure that the word of mouth of crime are getting out there. I do hope that the world cup would bring more prosperity and jobs for South Africans - and that it would be a lasting thing...

It will be a wonder if there will be no criminal act during the World cup. All the officials can say is that a miracle is on the way between now and 2010. I have seen a preview of the security of the security camera's being installed at hot spots.
My prayer is that the bandits will spare Africa the agony of violence during and after the fiesta. Crime is every where in the world but we all know that Africa is known for only bad news. Let us keep hope alive and the wonders will happen by then.

I just hope that crime is under control by 2010, but what really makes me sad is that they country's leaders don't really give a sh*t about us that are living here before 2010 and will be living here after 2010, what about the crime before and after 2010? that doesnt seem to be an issue, as long as its sorted out for that brief period so that they dont get a bad name internationally.

I just hope the organizers will realize that it was a wrong choice and move it to another country. Perhaps the players will refuse to go. Just pray that it will never come to SA.

jesus, it's been 13/14 years after apartheid and they still complain. Zuma was given Zimbabwe - it's f.u.c.ked.
all black african countries are starving, poor, disease.
South africa was given black leadership, now it is heading exactly the same as these previous countries.
Greed and nepatism and corruption is skin deep. South Africa is turning into zimbabwe and these african countries quickly.
Black are not made to be leaders - they are workers.
Am i racist - no.
Their bodies are different to ours - they sweat differently, they can withstand more heat(these facts are thought to be like they are because blacks were originally mine workers)
