Although he thinks crime is a perception he is building a R90 million imported wall around his Pretoria palace, he recently had a R35 million security upgrade to his Cape Town palace and he is building a R22 million retirement bunker for himself in Johannesburg. An RDP house costs R50,000 to build. How many could he have built for that money for the 'Homeless and poverty stricken" he claims to be so concerned about if crime is only a perception?

Roscoe - You are a deluded 3rd World moron. The only beneficiaries of the ANC wealth creation are themselves and their cronies. Poverty causes crime? So how come they torture Whites ,rape their Women and children. And on the assumption that poverty is the cause of crome then why doesnt Ethiopia have the highest crime rates in the World. Your ANC Handbook on Communist Ideologies wont cover that.

I got this in an e-mail today:

After I was a victim of crime in 2000, I attended many crime discussions, brain storming and therapy sessions. At each of these discussions the question came up on how to tackle the symptoms of crime.

The only question never raised was:

Question: "What is the influence of crime on the S.A. Govt?"

Answer: Crime generates millions and millions of Rand's for the S.A. Govt

Here are the facts:

Example 1:

Take just one million home owners in Gauteng who pay for "armed crime reaction" (not crime prevention) where private security companies react AFTER the crime has taken place - no wonder they never make any arrests!

This service costs on average R250 p.m. Therefore 1 000,000 x R240.00 X 12 months x 14% VAT, generates R403 million in tax revenue for the S.A. Govt!

Example 2:

A car thief steals a R500,000 car and receives between R10,000 and R30,000 for his deed.

The car owner is paid out by insurance and then purchases another similar vehicle, on which he pays 14% VAT of approx R70,000 as a direct result of crime. Who profited the most? The thief or the S.A.Govt?

We must begin with a mechanism whereby the S.A. Govt is forced to reconsider this unconstitutional and immoral practice of profiting from crime!

All South Africans should demand that all payments related to protection of life and property should be VAT free and Tax deductible!

This principle should also apply to replacement of stolen property as well as estate duty. If a person dies as a result of crime we should also demand that estate duty not be paid.

How much do you think the S.A. Govt has made out of estate duty from the murders of 1300 South African farmers?

The S.A. Govt likes to compare us to overseas. Well overseas, your safety and security is covered by your income tax and is tax deductible!

It is time that South Africans stood together and made the Govt and public aware of the Govt's "income" from crime. In the meantime crime is the goose that lays the golden egg

Is it also not unreasonable to expect victims of violence and hijackings to pay their own medical costs? The Govt should pay for these expenses as well as family counselling for victims!

Come on South Africa, ask the right questions and demand the right answers!

To answer your main question: NADA
Concerning Mbeki's R 90million wall, that's 190 RDP houses for otherwise 190 homeless South African families. The cost for this wall isn't even ploughed back into the local economy - a foreign company is contracted to build it. Thereby Mbeki proclaims that no South African company can build a wall that can keep him safe, although SA companies are building stadiums for 2010. The wall-money is SA taxpayers money given to foreigners for the luxury of a "leader" who doesn't care for his citizens. Despicable! It stinks of the trend of African dictators building palaces for themselves with taxpayers money and other public revenue.
Beaten up and ravaged as my country is, I still love the land. Are there any South African leaders out there who cares??!!!!
Ebby you speak of what you know nothing of. Go back to your play-pen.
Roscoe, you know Mbeki can't and won't fork R90 000 000 out of his own pocket for a wall for a house where he's only going to live in for another 2 years and you know there's some truth in what Mystery woman said. Come-on, don't be blind, man! It's all of us' country.

Ebby, catch a wake up!!!!! Doing his best, is Mbeki giving you something to say that?????

Let me tell you, did you see that he wants to put up a security wall around his house for about R2mil????? If crime in this country weren't so bad, why does the President need this wall. Why does the black mayor of Pretoria have 20 bodyguards???? How many does the President then have? All these GOVERNMENT people got security guards in front of their houses, excuse me, crime is not that bad in South Africa..... Of course not if you've got 24hour protection. And yes, maybe they do not want the death sentence in our justice, because I guess have off our government would be send right to hell.....

Ebby I commend you for keeping your eyes open and telling the truth as it is.
Alf: get off the propaganda horse and take your happy pill.

Money has been spent by gov'ts for centuries on things some may feel necessary to have and others see as a waste. At the end of the day, all you are doing is nothing but talk, which doesn't solve anything. Mbeki is not committing a crime against humanity by getting the wall around his home. He feel he needs the security, then it seems he realises that there is a problem of crime in the country. Take a look at yesterday's news for example, Winnie Madikizela-Mandela's house in Orlando West was burglared. That is cause for concern, I'm sure even a dim-witt like you can see that.

Now go that your pill.

where are you getting your info from Alf... you dont live here.
Ebby, i half agree with you, but if what Alf says is happenning is true, then this should seriously be looked into. people are living in dangerous conditions, and fires break out in shack infested areas every year, especially around winter. i'm no big fan of Mbeki (nor do i despise him...i'm just neutral) and i'd like to send forth this inquisition to Morning life and third degree to be looked into... thanks for the info Alf (if it is true)

Mebki can do what he likes with his money, its his. He has many times has he refered to the problem of crime, mainly 'caused by unemployment, the perception he is referring to is that South Africans are not criminals they are poor and desperate. Also giving RDP housing to the poor is not the priorities of the ANC there major policy is creating wealth and expanding our economy there by getting ppl jobs so they can afford houses and do not need to revert to crime
And mystry women if you have ever done even basic economics you would know that while crime does add to an economy it takes more than it gives and remember that most of the bought are cars imported or at the very least the parts are imported. And your idea that Security company's add so much is rubbish imagine if those ppl spent there money on other goods that have effective multiplier effects on the economy.

Vango
I did say that crime does add to an economy but high crime means we pay more in insurance, leaving us less disposable income, unlike banks insurance money stays in vaults as over head and does not add to the economy. In addition if we never had to fork out so much money buying security guards we could spend that extra cash on buying cloths for instance which would save our local textile industry and ultimately make cloths cheaper for us giving us more money to spend on something else....economic multipliers.
As for foreign companies coming into build our stadiums well its mainly due to the lack of skills in South Africa, with our largest engineering firm Murry and Roberts building the Gautrain we just do not have firms capable of dealing with such large scale construction, but they will still be contracted to do small jobs on the site and it will leave small jobs open for these firms to do.

I love my country and I do not deny, in fact, I can not deny that South Africa has problems but I belive that the decision MOST MP's make are well thought out, and if you look you will see why it was made.

and in any case I would like to see were this info about Mbeki comes from.

Alf
How about switching on the news, Ethiopia is at war with rebels that they are having difficulty controlling, talk about escalating crime. That’s crime you can't stop with your military
