I am a police reservist here in South Africa and when we catch criminals we usually give them a good beating! What are your opinions on that? Is it unfair or wrong? If you ask me, I think they deserve it, just like they would kill a person just for their cellphone without even the slightest of emotion! They don't care, why should others care about them?!

hi all,
I have a job offer to move to Durban (SA), and I need to know how is life there. is it safe? has good nightlife? good nature trails? kind people? where to live? is there something I must request from the company? etc. If I can get some links about it or how is the life of a foreigner over there I will appreciate.

thanks

Its abundantly clear to me that I derive absolutely no benefit of any kind from the thousands of Rands I pay annually in the form of income taxes.
Why should I pay when I still need to pay Chubb to provide me with security which I believed at a point was the job of the South African Police SERVICE.
I still need to pay toll fees (excessive) to drive on our highways which are 3rd world at best.
The potholes in the roads in my neighbourhood never get repaired or get repaired and re-appear within 2 days.
I need to pay Discovery Health to provide me with medical care in the event of illness.
My children need to go to private schools due to the complete lack of any kind of quality education at a government institution, that and the fact that I would love my children to be able o read and write by matric.
Why did I subsidise SASOL for years only to derive no benefit?
Honest answers please, should I cheat my taxes?

I'm asking because his head is on the chopping block, yet he still gets a monthly salary of R50 000 from the South African National Defence Force although he was suspended in 1999, according to this recent article http://www.news24.com/City_Press/News/0,,186-187_2074581,00.html

Answerers having their wives/ husbands/ friends/ family help vote for their answer when a question goes into voting after 6 days. Or even having a second identity that helps vote for their answer or the one identity posting an answer that the other, who posted the question, chooses it as best. Personally I think the whole race for trying to have as many as possible best answers is synthetic and quite sad and missing the point of sharing knowledge and opinions.
I know this is not a "travel" question but I'm more interested in my fellow South Africans' answers than most other.
What do you guys think? Is this cheating or clever or doesn't it matter?

When will his new crime resolution policies start working? Just Friday the MEC for community safety Fivoz Cachalia and his wife were robbed. The time is running out because if his solution isn't going to start kicking in soon the whole parliament and all top level government officials are going to become victims of crime perceptions!
