Answerers having their wives/ husbands/ friends/ family help vote for their answer when a question goes into voting after 6 days. Or even having a second identity that helps vote for their answer or the one identity posting an answer that the other, who posted the question, chooses it as best. Personally I think the whole race for trying to have as many as possible best answers is synthetic and quite sad and missing the point of sharing knowledge and opinions.
I know this is not a "travel" question but I'm more interested in my fellow South Africans' answers than most other.
What do you guys think? Is this cheating or clever or doesn't it matter?

I agree Innocentia. It sure is fun and no other section is as spicy as the SA section. Sure gets hot in here sometimes! Guess points is and remain nice (getting to that next level) but, ja, obsession is something to be careful of.

In so much as the questionaire is at liberty to select the answer of their choice, there is, unfortunately, merit in what you say, Alf.

Interesting observation, Poepies. I do sometimes vote for my own answer in hope of a bonus 10 points (:-)) but recently by far most of my votes quota go to other answerers. If my answer wins on votes, it's most often on just one vote. I guess this forum is much like life itself, give a lot and take a little (at least that's how it's supposed to be...).

At some point Vango, I even forget about the points. I also love the South African section, just to hear peoples views and perceptions of my home country. The points dont matter, at the end of the day Yahoo wont offer me a mil for all the points I have. I suppose its just a fun activity one can indulge in when not tied up with office work and stuff and a great way to learn new things and becoming aware of what is going on around me, whilst i continue living my sheltered life. As for having friends and family voting or multiple avatars... thats just a bit too obsessive and silly. But why care? Whatever blows their hair back... let them do it, it doesnt stop me from living.

Hi,
I agree with you 100%.
Some – only some – categories use this strategy to score some points. – I think so –
Other sections like friends, family, & relations; viewers would not even rate your answer at all. They are busy answering or asking.

Once I saw, an answer that got nine thumbs up & others who had almost the same answers had 5-6 thumbs down.

Moreover, I noticed other things about travel category, they judge your language, and some answers after your answer will trash yours & accusing you of being fool or stupid.
This kind of act kills the need to find an interesting question with some useful answers.

God knows we are not seeking war here; we are only looking for some knowledge.
I only wish that we had the chance to help each other if we can, without judging others.

God bless

I do get a lot of best answers, however, if one would have the time to go around switching usernames for that, that is very petty. That is silly. Can't we just enjoy the discussions, the questions and Answers we are getting and not compete with each other.

Though I do think Alf Garnett is guilty of that.

I agree more than 100%! If you click on the "most best answers" candidates, you will see that most of those best answers "IS CHOSEN BY THE VOTERS" I wonder why, or do I really?

Well it is so stupid, if I could get rich out of it, I would surely do it too, but what is fun about the fact for getting others to vote for you just to get a BEST ANSWER? That's just stupid...

LOL! It's one thing spending a bit of time on here, looking at all the different opinions, learning, voicing your thoughts. But to have a family or yourself chasing points like that... I simply don't have the time or patience.

Seems like cheating is a learned behaviour for some South Africans and despite the lunatic allegations against me it is worth noting I am on my 5th reincarnation as Alf Garnett. Generally I have left my questions to be resolved by vote but of late I have noticed ridiculous views receiving the highest number of thums up and have taken to awarding the 10 points myself.

I think you have a valid point, but seeing as there is no "reward" for getting points, as such, let them do what they like, if they are only here to get more points and they want to award them to themselves through ways you've explained, then well, let them be, its their choice I guess.

Cheating - how can you get satisfaction from voting for yourself. Doesn't make sense.
