Hi

I will be visiting Dubai next week. I need to purchase some gold. i'll be staying in Dubai for couple of days. Is it advisable to buy the gold in some gold souks in Dubai or should i buy it in Dubai Duty Free?
Which one works out to be cheap?
And what about the quality of the gold?

What about other shopping areas in Dubai Duty Free? I need to buy some toys, mobiles etc. Should i pick them up in Dubai city or in the duty free shops?

Please advise?

Regards,
Sk

My husband, who is Muslim, and I were having a conversation about religion. He was telling me that in Islamic belief God will torture those (I guess their souls when the time comes) who are not of the right faith (which is obviously Islam in my husband's view).
Based on this conversation what I don't understand is why Muslim men can have a non-Muslim wife knowing that by his belief her soul cannot be with God because she is not of the right faith.

This seems a bit contradictory to me. Muslim men can marry women 'of the book' even though their souls are basically condemned? I know Islam is supposed to pass on through the father to the children, but the wife doesn't matter?

...and in the rest of the diaspora for that matter? Why do even Orthodox women generally ignore these today? Is it a new theological interpretation, or is it just refusal to follow? Also, when are where did the practice of face veiling and veiling in general start to disappear among Jews and why? Do you know of any Jewish communities who still practice face veiling?

I thought you guys might like this video of traditional Jewish clothing. I'd love to here your comments.

Could that be step one on the road to peace?

They could all convert and apply for aliyah. Once they get there...well Israel IS a democratic country and treats all its citizens equally and all, so if they later decided they had made a terrible mistake and switched back to Islam or Christianity, what could Israel do except grin and bear it?

I just realized that I asked this question on R&S and not Israel where I had intended. You could check it out over there, too.

more natural in a Muslim country? With so much in common, how come Christians and Muslims don't love each other, and together change the world to their narrow points of view.

in helping you form a mental image of a certain person? I mean, each one of us projects a certain type of personality through his/her questions and answers. Does this personality sometimes clash with the mental image you form of the person according to their avatar? Have you ever sensed a discrepancy between mental image and personality of any of the users here? How important is it to you to reconcile both images in your mind, and does that affect your perception of other users here in any way?

And yes, this applies to Jews only. To non-Jews, I will explain what I am saying, but I'm just interested in asking Jewish people these questions.

Achim sheli, do you have a mizrach plaque in your house?

(To non-Jews, this is a small plaque that is placed on a wall of a Jewish home that is in the direction of Jerusalem and is meant for the Jewish prayers, which are always towards the direction of Jerusalem and Israel.

I have a Mizrach in my room which I got from Israel- it has Jerusalem decorated on it and is says "Im eskachech yerushalayim tishkach yemini ".... and also- "Mimizrach shemesh ad mevo'oh mehullal shem Hashem."
Do you have a Mizrach? I mostly see them in religious homes though.

Do you have mezuzot on all your doors? And do you always kiss them?

I'm not religious so I don't always remember to kiss them, but I have them on every door in my house (appropriate doorways), and my mezuzah for my room is from Israel.

Just for one minute try to put aside all the Palestinian, Jewish hatred.
Tonight on HBO I saw a documentary about an 18 year old Palestinian girl who went into a store and blew herself and one 17 year old Jewish girl up. Of course they both died.
This story was very poignant in that it didn't take sides with either mother.
The Jewish mom wanted to speak wit the Palestinian mom to find out a few things..did she know her daughter was going to do this..why did her daughter do this..would she be interested in trying to spread the word that what her Palestinian daughter had done was wrong.
After almost 5 years the mom's met via closed circut TV.
The Jewish mom was trying to make her point, but in all fairness the Palestinian mom was saying her daughter lived with terroism daily, that htey were prisoners... that se hd seen many of her people(some of them friends) killed by Israelies.
That while the Jews had freedom to go where they wanted and live where they wanted not the Palestinians

What would (Orthodox, Progressive and Conservative) Jews think of this.

Researches get late aborted fetuses, take the egg from it and use it for therapeutic cloning.

From my understanding, Orthodox Jews have applauded therapeutic cloning, but would their view change if they were using eggs from aborted fetuses.

And what about, Progressive and Conservative Jews? How would they feel?
